so, my rears are now on the legal limit yet the fronts have over half their life left

ideally id like to upsize but cant find 255/35/18 MPSS anywhere so im gonna stick with oem sizes considering ive not really had any issues

ive noticed these in the oem size - Pirelli PZero Corsa Direzionale 245/35 R18 (92Y) XL TL

has anybody got any experience with them? they are the latest top spec tyre from pirelli but could they come close to the MPSS??

ive said previously that ive adored the MPSS but yano, pirelli make F1 tyres :lol2:

edit - goodyear eagle f1 asy2 come in 255/35 R18 94Y XL FP TL

pilot sport 3 come in 255/35 R18 94Y XL TL

Can you hang for Michelins true successor to the - IMHO - superb PS2, their new PS4 ?

Am sure these will come in wider 18" sizes and be OK to mix with your PSS at the front.

Or buy some wider used PS2's to tide your rear axle over and trial with your existing PSS upfront, before you move away from PSS.

How much better do you need your tyres br0wny?

The few occasions I've mixed tyres, even of similar quality, I've hated them after a few days and gone back.

MPSS are v good but if you are wanting wider rear sizes than stock then you have to consider a different tyre.

I have no experience of the pirellis but had PS2s all round on my e46 for 9+ years of ownership. I rate them alongside PSS.

If the blurb about PS4 is to be believed then PS4 will stack up very well against PS2. Something PS3 was never meant for. PS4 could well be a worthy alternative to PSS for those wanting wider tyres or quieter tyres without giving away too much of what PSS brings to our cars. Much like GY eagle F1 ASY 2 as many on here can testify.

Having said this, the write ups on the pirellis is also v good if a tad noisy - sound familiar !!

Here's a question on tyres, possibly a stupid one: if you hand your car back to BMW without MPSS will it affect the value??

Oh good! When it comes to the time I may do a track day and then replace with some nexens or something cheap for the PX!

I think if you hand back a car with similar premium brand UHP tyres then I'd agree with Scrounger - no issues.

If you hand it back with nexen's - even if brand new - I think you might take a hit. If I was an informed buyer at a dealership and saw an M135i which was great - apart from the tyres not being upto snuff - that's a price haggling point right there.

IMHO, I'd be more inclined to buy used Mich/Conti/B'stone/Pirelli more so than a middling brand.

So I ended up ordering the new pilot sport 4 in 255/35

They also do 235/40 which is perfect for the fronts when they need doing in spring :D

Browny,

If possible, when you get 245 PSS and 255 PS4 together could you measure tread width ?

Also - word of caution re 235/40 at the front - on H&R's you have already + future M4 LCAs, you may well rub as 235/40 is fair bit taller than 225/40....
