So I took delivery of my M135i around one month ago, and since, I've had some fantastic times in it, I've had many ear to ear smiles upon my faces, I've scared the life out if the Mrs and even embarrassed a couple of 'M' drivers.
I thoroughly love it, she's my baby. I really must think of a name for her though, any ideas?
But quoting the legendary Sir Isaac Newton, 'What goes up, must come down.'
And come down it did with a bang. On Sunday nights driving home from Tesco I had the yellow engine warning light come on the car. BMW roadside assistance later sent out a technician to diagnose the problems and within about an hour he was there, so I really can't fault BMW whatsoever with the service that they provided to me. He diagnosed The root of the problem to be faulty oxygen sensors pre-and post cat, cylinder number four was misfiring and he suspected a cracked exhaust maybe part of the issue too. There was also the issue with the start stop not working and some miss coated alloy wheels.
Credit where credit Stu BMW sort this all out within four days and the past four days I have taken the time to reflect on my first month with the car and let you guys know I think as everybody seems to do this. BMW replaced the whole exhaust system, all for oxygen sensors, All the fuel injectors and all of the spot plugs. They also replaced all 4 alloy wheels with brand-new wheels and they asked replace the starter motor. So around £6500 worth of work so they say.
I think the above was more me being a bit too precocious ringing up the BMW assistant straight away but it proved that I needed it and my caution was correct. Although it has to be said it was diagnosed this was stemmed from a manufacturing error. Four of the exhaust manifold bolts were taken to type and put a 6 inch crack in the exhaust. I suppose has had a knock-on effect?
Anyway enough about pies out the way now hey comes the fantastic part I suppose?
Every single time I get in the car it does not fail to make me smile. The car is a little rocket and it's hard to put into words how A car makes you smile and why it makes you smile but it just does. Since I've had the M135i i've been comparing it to the other car in the house which is a BMW M4. I suppose I thought this was comparing apples with apples but it's like comparing chalk and cheese. One is a completely fully fledged M car and the other is a BMW performance car so to speak. I had a BMW 118 whilst my car was in the garage and the amount of engineering and how far advanced M135i is compared to this 118 is biblical. It's hard to believe that they even share the same chassis. Perhaps this is what I needed to be comparing it to, a lower level BMW car...
The car itself is simply astonishing, in my opinion. It may not be a fully fledged M car but the smell it was on your face, from firsthand experience, is as good if not better. This car is a missile when you want it to be and calm and collected at other times whilst doing 45mpg on a 70mph run! I will echo my words and say again I love this truly amazing car. I thought that the Polo GTI I had before this would be hard to match for fun value, but the M-Lite has eclipsed it.
I didn't really know what to expect, but what I got, was the best fun pound for pound available!
