According to the michelin website the MPSS is no longer being made in a 225 40 18 92y, only the 88y. You have to go up to 245 to get the XL sidewall. Now I assumed this was a run out last year whilst the new tyres were being stocked, but am now worried that its permanent as I can find bugger all info on the new mpss (if that is what it is called) . Does anyone know something I don't?

So, the pilot sport 4 isn't the mpss replacement by the looks of it and neither is the gy assym3 or the new contis. Where do we go for this performance without hitting cup 2's which really are a little extreme.

Personally I'm looking for something I can use as a road tyre and for a wet / cold winter track day if required, where semi slick tyres wouldn't be suitable? Any thoughts?

88Y is the standard issue on the M-Lites, despite their propensity to scrub the outer edge to pieces.

Ok, so the tyres are specced for the newer cars by the sound of it. Makes some sense I guess. Sad day for us that like a stiff sidewall or eight! I had 88y's on my 335i and didn't like it, 92 was so much better. Shame, it's a product that isn't really made by others as far as I can tell, and is exactly what I'm after. Frustrating.

I'm to understand that PS4 maybe a viable alternative as it an evolution of the superb PS2 with elements of MPSS.

If PS4 have the dry grip / traction and feel of PSS and the quiet and wet handling and braking of PS2 then they'll be on my car next time.

Interested in how the yokos v105 stack up

Sort of related question guys?

I'm moving over to some 8" CH-R (8 all round) from the 436's

I was going to sell the 225/40/18 which are as its happens the 88Y variant (Dec 2015 built) and use 245/35/18 all round.

Now I'll need 2x 245/35/18 so are all the MPSS being phased out?

Deciding if to move rears to front and fit PS4 to the rears or the other way round?

There's no shortage of the OEM rears (or fronts), just the 225 92y's.

Ok, that's got me a bit more interested in the ps4. Info is light on the ground so I judged my thoughts on the images of the tread pattern which seems more PS3 than mpss. That and knowing there is a mpss still in the range seemed to set it in that place. I have ps2's on a Cayman and they are good on that car. I'll look into the yokos too, thanks.
