mperformance or milltek

Just the price seems similar except you get the system with the milltek and just a back box and tips with a mperformance exhaust. But which is a better sound I had milltek on all my scoobs so I know the quality I just don't want anything to loud and I want value for money.

The mperformance exhausts always hold their value well. There will be a demand for it once/if you take it off.
MPE is the sociable answer, still valved do no drone when pootling around normally. No performance gains though.
Can you put your old system back on I thought you needed to cut the old system off?? That was anot her reason going milltek as I can just bolt the old one on.
Milltek was specifically designed to completely eliminate drone and quality will be very good, should be easy to sell on also.
My milltek drones a bit to be fair. 2.5k revs in 8th is motorway cruising speeds, so that's a pain. Better in the shorter geared manual I believe.

Having said that, I've kept it on for about 50k miles, so the other noises it makes more than make up for a bit of motorway drone!
MPE, with both tailpipes open [Golf tee mod or override via JB4] will drone at ~ 2k rpm hence why SAT sport mode doesn't use 8th gear. With valves in stock operation no drone at all with MPE.

As Essii says, drop a cog - not a chore - with MPE LH tailpipe valve open - does sound meatier !!!

Afternoon, I fitted the Milltek cat back system to my car. Really easy to do. No droning whatsoever (I have the manual)

super happy with the noise it makes. a blip of throttle to about 2.5k rpm releases the most amazing chorus of burbles and pops!

when I took the old system off I couldn't believe how heavy it was! the milltek is freer flowing and weighs significantly less (going by the good old pick one up after the other method...)

I was also massively impressed by the build quality on the Milltek. makes the bmw system look like it was done by an elderly person with parkinsons....

with regards to being too loud, I personally don't think it is that loud. nobody spins around and stares daggers at me in the street and I haven't had a complaint from any of my neighbours with regards to the cold starts. I even bumped in to the woman who takes charge of the annual meetings in the block and asked her whether anybody had commented. nobody has said a word so I can only imagine the exhaust is fine!

Where abouts are you based? more than happy to pop by or arrange something so you can have a listen.

Best

Ah... I'm in London so slightly out of the way! I am however potentially going to Birmingham soon to have a jb4 and decat fitted so might be able to work something out!

Alternatively just keep an eye on the famous auction site for a milltek system, and see if you can snap up a bargain. That way you can use it and if for whatever reason you don't like the noise then you can always flog it again for not much of a loss. Managed to get mine brand new for £500 so anything is possible!

I assume you've considered bcs etc? Wish I had had the cash for that!

No I haven't just milltek or m performance where on my radar. Why didn't you go for the ever popular m performance??

Couldn't find one at a decent price and as far as I'm aware it needs to be fitted by an exhaust shop as it requires cutting and welding? I recruited two friends and we put the milltek on on Sunday evening. Was just a case of disconnecting at the v clamp by the cat and fitting the new exhaust. Couldn't have been easier.

I also intend to tune the car and figured less restrictive mid pipe would be the way to go!

To be honest though, people are really happy with both so I don't want to reccomend the milltek over the M performance one as some people will no doubt disagree!

I'd go with the powervalve. Although OP has not mentioned it it's a cracking bit of kit and the sound is awesome!
