MP Side Stripes peeling off *(NOW FIXED)*

So this has been slowly getting worse...

As you can see my MP side stripes are not the best, this started less than 3 months into ownership and finally after a few communications with the dealer they have agreed to supply and fit new ones free of charge for me. Apparently there should of been some clear laquer on the folds however this was never done which would of stopped them peeling back.

Only nightmare is I have a 2 hour drive to Wales to get it sorted out as they will only sort it out at their dealership.

So at my convenience I will be having a day out at Wales and taking the Mrs for a nice scenic drive.

Just wish the weather was better.

Anyone suggest anything to do in Wales near Halliwell Jones at all.

Thanks.

I have an idea but it involves sheep!!!!! :eek2:

On a more serious note, the clear lacquer on the folds, is this something that needs to be considered on any decal fitting?

ha ha I did think that but I thought it was just for the Welsh people. :lol2:

The clear lacquer is only useful on the folds of the side stripes. I also have the MP side sill stripes that curve round at the front arch but these seem to be stuck on with greater determination so less of a concern of peeling.
Yeah that's why I asked, getting my sill decals fitted soon.

As long as they are put on right there won't be any problems. My MP strips were put on wrong hence why dealer is going to honor the replacement.

Ok thought I would update this and let you know the BMW dealership has sorted out my MP side stripes and fitted brand new ones free of charge. They did a pretty good job, just a couple of niggles but nothing I'm going to lose sleep over and bottom line is they look much better now.

Oh and they put us up in Conwy Castle Hotel overnight for FREE so well chuffed with that.

It turned out the peeling part on my old MP stripes was actually part of the decal that's meant to be taken off after it's been stuck onto the bodywork but was left on for some reason?

Anyway they look a little darker and are now properly in line with the black colour on the lower sill and look much better now.

Once they were fitted i stopped off at Llandudno and drove up a very high mountain to get this shot while I was down in Wales.

Then a quick detour to the Trafford Centre on the way back home to grab a Five Guys, came back to my car and a lovely black M3 was parked right next to me.

And now finally she is all cosy back home...

Car looks really smart! Liking the stripes a lot.
Looks really good, thinking of having the side stripes fitted to my M135i.

Do it! :spotman: Some people like them, others hate them. I had expected mine to look the same as WATTS's stripes, but the dealer had put the ones with a red border. Hated it when I first saw them, but they grew on me and I'll be adding more things to the car at some stage :D

Cheers guys.

Sarren, Your red leather interior matches your black/red stripes perfectly, now if you just had Red MP calipers it would look awesome as it would pull it all in and slam it on 19's to finish her off perfectly...

It's all a slippery slope though Sarren... ;-) :lol2:

It is indeed :lol2:

Looking for a set of 405m wheels to add to the car over the next few months... all in good time :D

Yeah they are nice alloys those ones, it's a shame you can't just get the calipers painted in red without having to do the full MP brake kit as that would save a ton of money and the standard M235i brakes are more than good enough too.

Looking forward to seeing them alloys on your car dude. :)

Hi hoping you can help - I've recently bought a 4 series M Sport, which is only 6 months old, and noticed that the M Performance sticker looked like it had been torn - on closer inspection its a clear film that has peeled. You can see the colour difference, the left half is where its been peeled off and the right it's still in place. Are you saying that this film 'should' be peeled off purposely? If so then my dealer has just agreed to replace mine when I should actually just be peeling it off

I only remember peeling backing off my foils when fitting, nothing on face that I can think of!

The OP is referring to issues with the waste line stripe that has to be cut and folded around door shuts
It's just that the pics of the stripes peeling looks just like what's happening to mine when I start to peel the clear film back. Plus you can see the finish is far more matte where the film still is, but maybe that's how it should be.

Just seen this and actually astonished that they didn't remove that protective backing when originally fitted. I'm willing to bet they didn't put new ones on there and just removed that backing after realising the mistake!
That is so obviously a protective film that should have been removed after fitting

It did add a kind of subtle contrast to the paintwork with being less black but yeah they should of been removed at the dealers.
