Morning all! Hope everyone is enjoying this slightly warmer weather!

Managed to snag a bargain on the weekend. Found a brand new Milltek cat back exhaust system with polished 90mm tips for £500! Had to drive a couple of hours to pick it up but that was no issue. Then because I am incredibly impatient I drove back home, put the car on some ramps and axel stands and crawled underneath to fit the thing, on sunday night, at 10pm....

managed to do it in a couple of hours which I was pretty chuffed with, the only difficult bit was manoeuvring the single piece BMW exhaust off! The car now makes a very naughty noise when you blip the throttle. It sounds as if it is cackling. Like a baby V6S F Type! Absolutely brilliant! Not too much louder on acceleration but it is definitely an improvement over stock. No droning at all. Thoroughly pleased with it!

I was wondering though, would I need a remap or anything to get the most out of the exhaust? everything else is stock at the moment but I do plan on getting a jb4 and decat done at some point so I figured I will just wait until I get that done and get all the mapping done at once. Assuming there wont be any negatives to doing it this way?

Your thoughts would be brilliant!

The storm has arrived though :(

Probably won't get any gains from a cat back really anyway so just wait for the jb4 and decat and enjoy the noise :)

Nice price on the exhaust! Where from? I am after one.
It was from a private seller. The unlucky guy managed to write his car off before he could fit it! I went in low and managed to agree it at £500.

Feel slightly bad for taking advantage but then I give the throttle a quick tap and I feel fine again!

Excuse my ignorance, I'm new to doing any type of mods to cars. Is a cat back exhaust just the back box and tail pipes (like the MPE) ?
If so what prices would I be looking at?
I've been quoted £750 for the MPE fitted
Hi, a cat back includes all of the exhaust from the catalytic convertor to the exhaust tips. The catalytic convertor in the M135i is right at the front of the car at the bottom of the downpipe (the pipe that goes from the engine to underneath the car). so the milltek kit included quite a lot of tubing etc.

with regards to fitting, it really is quite straight forward, I am far from mechanically able however it just takes a bit of elbow grease and some spanners and it's done. you can save yourself a lot of money by just giving it a go yourself!

Lol, nice find anyway. I will be getting JB4 and an exhaust, just dont know which one to get first....
Yeah JB4 is next on my list. cannot wait to get that done. heard awesome things about it. let me know when you do it with some feedback!

with regards to which one first, I reckon exhaust, easy to do yourself and is needed to get the most from the JB4 I imagine. so might as well get it now then get the JB4 at a later date which is what I plan to do.

Hi, yeah mpe is just the very back box. It is worth it as it leaves your warranty intact (as far as I am aware) . So if I had the cash I would have gone for that. The usual cost for the milltek system is about £1000 so don't use £500 as a guide. I was just incredibly lucky. I am also incredibly impatient and the fact that I could pick up the milltek system same day was to be honest the biggest factor!

I also wanted to change the entire system as the piping from the cat back is squashed so restricts the flow of air slightly more (apparently) . The standard system also has a resonator in the exhaust which further restricts flow. My ultimate goal is to have mine mapped so I wanted the least restrictive system.

Nice one. Do you have an older car?
I'm picking my 16 plate up early March so I'd like to keep my warranty intact.
I bet your car sounds great now

Nice find! I've just paid the same for a second hand one! I went to fit the other day and realised the same issues of getting the one piece system off. How did you manage, drop the strut braces off? I need ramps!

Hi Adam,

I just used small ramps for the rear wheels then axel stands for the front wheels. there was just enough room for me to slide under on my back. Took the bracing off that was at the back of the car then undid the bolts holding the hanger into place just behind the cat.

The V clamp at the front just behind the clamp was a bit of a bug*er however with a bit of fiddling it wasn't too bad.

The only annoying bit was I had just finished driving it in the rain so when I was underneath I kept getting bits of water dripping into my face!

Once everything was loose I just had my friends help with manoeuvring it out the back of the car. then just put the new system in piece by piece to make it easier leaving the clamps loose till everything was done and positioned correctly.

definitely easier with more than one person by the way. Also a crowbar is pretty much essential to get the standard exhaust off the hangers, preferably one with a split in the end.

Hope that helps!

where are you based by the way? Might be able to help with the ramps if needed?
