So after recently fitting Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2's and DS2500's to make the M2 suitable for track use today I got to find out exactly how well it would go!

Firstly the tyres. After running NS2R's on my previous track car and driving numerous cars fitted with R888's and AD08R's I have to say that the Cup 2's are incredible. When cold they spin and squirm and you can actually hear that they are cold, but once warmed up they are awesome! Plenty of grip with no dramas. I would have no hesitation to recommend them. They grip incredibly well and as long as you keep the pressures below 40psi the tyre are supremely grippy. Another plus is that even after the whole day lapping Cadwell Park the tyres have hardly worn. Overall they were very impressive!

Now the brakes. I had read lots of reports about the brakes not been great on the M2 in standard form so I chose to use DS2500's all round. Again I had read that the DS2500's were not particularly suited to the fairly heavy M2 and would breakdown with heavy use. I found the the opposite. The pads were excellent plenty of bite and and no sign of issues. The only problem was I hadn't had chance to change the fluid to RBF660 so I did get some fade, but I'm confident this was only fluid related. As with the tyres the pads look to have barely worn!

I have to say this was my first proper venture on track with the M2 and it was epic. Really came alive on track and the car had incredible grip and feel. It was keeping up with much more track focused cars. Reinforces my decision that the M2 is the perfect track car / daily!

That's great news. I Can second the ds2500s. Great pad, next step up is the pagids but honestly the ferodo pads are perfect, you can even use them on the road too (although I prefer to swap them out between track days). I'm using mbf600 and is perfect too. My mpss on there way out, got one more track day left in them so will change them out next month.

What size tyre did you go for on the cup2s?

Marty,

Good to know re DS2500's and MPSC2's - makes me think I should of opted for 18" MPSC2 for my 513m's instead of MPSS, although I'm curious to see how MPSS 19" v 18" behave, albeit having only done one TD with 19" so far, the car faired well.

Brakes - standard setup felt OK all day but it was wintery so ambient temps quite low and track dried out more later on. I have OE F8x sport pads to fit which I used on my m135i hence why I have them again but might have to look at DS2500 down the line....

Your comments on grip echo mine. I was amazed at the amount of front end grip that the car hard even with mine on the Contis!

Coming from years of tracking in my 182 where it was always front limited even on Cup sports it was a revelation.

Just left as std, 245's front 265's rear. IMO it definitely doesn't need any more front end grip with PSC2's. The rear when warm did not break traction unless really provoked. For me the std sizes are perfect with the added grip that the cups bring.

To be fair I don't have a direct comparison of the Cup 2's vs MPSS as mine was one of the cars supplied with contis. All I do know is the cup 2' grip like poo to a blanket and didn't wear much!!! What more do you need [emoji3]

Nice write up thanks for sharing! I too have just experienced my M2 on track for the first time, I was fortunate enough to spend a few days at the 'ring last weekend. I kept the stock tyres (Conti Sport 3 on my car) but I fitted braided hoses, ATE TYP200 fluid and Pagid RS29 front pads. The brakes worked just fine with no issues (although the 'ring isn't tough on brakes) and I was mighty impressed by the cars mechanical grip on (what I thought were) not very good tyres!

Are you using stock suspension?
Yeah apart from the brakes and tyres the car is completely stock. I'm not entirely sure that anything else needs changing at all. As you've said the mechanical grip is excellent. It's surprising how good the font end grips.
