Hi all,

As a newbie to the Beemer forums, even though I've had a 118d Performance Edition 2011 for last five years, I'm after a little advice.
Ive been looking at changing my car for the last yr which has seen me look at the S3, RS3 and more recently the FL AMG A45. The latter two were fantastic drives but the 40k ish price tag for a hatch, I could not justify. The S3, was ok but nothing special. So today, don't ask why I popped into local BMW dealer and test drove a M135i, albeit a pre-LCi model and was quite frankly blown away. Add the discount on a solidly option specced car it came in just over 30k. So you may ask, what is the problem. Well personally I bought my 118d prior to the facelift model came out and have always kind of regretted it. With the M140i going into production this summer, does the M135i still have the appeal?? Im led to believe that it will be a re badge and engine change rather than a full facelift??
Why is car buying such a stress??? Thank for any info or advice in advance folks!!

I'd buy M135i now even with possibility of M140i coming towards the end of the year, fairly certain you will not get same discounts when the M140i arrives and it is only going to be an engine change. BMW release a facelift after four years and a complete redesign after 8 years so the next 1 series will have a complete redesign in 2018, incredibly unlikely they would do a facelift just for M140i. Don't stress buy M135i at decent price and have fun!

As the others have said the 140 is likely to be just an engine change, allegedly 15hp more, which is going to make little difference driving on the roads. Remember they won't want to impose on the M2. From everything I read cosmetic changes are unlikely.

The other side of it is if the 140 is coming in September you probably won't be able to order one until around then, potentially leaving you not getting a car until December. Long time to wait, if you wait until then you might think about 2018 and the new model and wait a bit longer and so on...

Far as deals go it depends on what options you have but I'd suggest talk to Mo at Park Lane week is putting together some great deals along with the customer service you'd expect,

As with anything in the tech world, there is always something round the corner that "might" be better, you have to look at the deal now and the car your going to buy and not worry about a few months down the line, its the only way.
Even with production changes that come up, thinking the week 10 last year when they changed a couple of things like the steering wheel and the one just coming where the battery is changing and something going on with the passenger side mirror you can't let the what if I wait mentality win or you will never buy the thing :)

Buy the m135i

Proven engine and good discounts , wait a couple of years and trade for m140i when technology is proven and discounts can be had.

You won't be disappointed with the m135i , I drove my mates a45 amg the other day and I still prefer my m135i

The new engine will come with heavy R&D costs which need to be paid for. I severely doubt you'll get circa 20% discount like we all do currently.

N.B. If you're not getting a good discount (some dealers only offer low teens), speak to 'TRL' (Our tame BMW sales manager) on here.

The next 1er being fwd has long been rumoured, the last 'official' thing I read was some senior guy at BMW saying they had to decide between going fwd + interior space (mainly boot) vs rwd + staying in line with what bmw generally do. He was keen on rwd but said it's down to the commercials.

If it goes fwd I think the m-lite will almost certainly be 4wd (haldex). If it is rwd maybe we'll get the option like they do in Europe.

Buy lol. I came from a 2009 118d to an m235i. No regrets whatsoever! Amazing car.

Though right now I am on a train home to put my summer wheels back on temporarily after I discovered a massive screw in a rear winter. Grr.

The new 1 Series hatch (out circa 201:cool2: will be badged a 2 Series and will still be RWD. There will be a FWD 1 Series to fill the gap as an entry level BMW subsequently.

The M140i will arrive in September this year and will feature a B58 in a higher state of tune over the 326hp it has in the 340i. Something like 340hp.
