Afternoon all.

I hope some of you are taking advantage of this dry weather with your cars?! I'm stuck at work so unsurprisingly I'm browsing sites looking at things I can fit to my car.... stumbled across this: " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It is the new style steering wheel that I think is fitted to all LCi M135i's? I love the style of it and the fact that it has the cruise control buttons on (so I can just code the cruise control into my car?) wondered whether anybody had an idea as to whether this would be a straight forward swap?

Thoughts would be appreciated! and I also hope I have posted this in the right section... I noticed I had done it wrong last time. Apologies!

I looked into this a while ago as I have the older steering wheel.

Apparently it can be done (check the m135i section) and no coding is required just a simple disconnect of the battery whilst you do it.

The only stumbling block for me is the fact there is a single or dual stage airbag and you need to ensure you buy the correct one with the new wheel. As I wasn't sure which type I had on the old wheel I didn't go any further.

I was also slightly scared changing the wheel and air bag over and connecting the battery in case I got errors or the airbag deployed lol.

Amazing thanks for the responses! Will go ahead and have one delivered!

I remember changing the steering wheel on my old car, stood outside the car whilst timidly unscrewing it in case the airbag went off! Jumped an absolute mile when my friend thought it would be funny to shout bang!!

Why not consider the M wheel if you can find one with the airbag (and cheap enough). Or wait for the incoming M2 MP wheel. That looks the dogs!

Let me know how you get on please... I still want to change mine but was unsure about single or dual stage types of the airbag unit and how you find out which one you have - no one seemed able to confirm or deny either way for me.

(Most of the wheels I found (old and new) are SINGLE STAGE however I had spotted a odd one with dual stage and REALOEM didn't help much either)

Looks awesome! How long did it take you to do it? Just spent a couple of hours coding the car.... Absolutely incredible what can be done!

I took awhile to buy the various bits so as I could pre-assemble the new wheel as much as possible off the car.

The actual swap took <20mins with half that time taken up removing old style airbag once battery neg terminal disconnected.

I have the centre trim and tempted to buy the flappy paddles. A bit apprehensive doing the airbag job incase I fudge it up! Do the paddles fit in the old paddle slots easily then? Cheers BP

Hi Matt

Paddles fit np

If you buy m5/6 paddles you need to swap the paddle part onto your existing paddles

If buying m3/4 paddles -it's PnP

That's exactly what I'm after Sjrlewis17 .

I guess the wheels is the same for manual and auto.

Did you get the wheel from eBay like your original post? Did that come with everything you needed?

How tough was it to swap?

Have to say it looks the nuts!! I'd like to add the m3/4 paddles if I can too.

Cheers. DC

Hey DC, definitely the second best thing I have done to the car after the jb4!

Seriously easy to change over. All you need is a 16mm ratchet and a thin flat head screwdriver. Do you have the old wheel? If so I can forward you a little write up I did for another member.
