Hello,

I have finally decided to buy a M135i over a 125d after a few months of the head over heart scenarios. Its been painful. :?

Obviously Autotrader/ebay is the place to look, can anyone suggest other areas to look, is the car auctions a place to look as the 3yr olds will be coming on to the market ? (or is anyone selling or PX to dealer anytime soon?)

Looking for a 13/63 plate, 3dr and auto-box, preferably with Professional Nav or Black panel display with loudspeaker system or HK.

Thanks
Alan

I've always found with BMW if you are looking at that sort of age range it always works out cheaper (monthly wise) to buy new.
TRL on here will sort you out with a decent quote.
20%+ discounts

But if you are a cash buyer, some bargains can be had. You need to know what you are doing at an auction, but I bet some forum member may be tempted if they need to get rid.

Don't discount going down the bmw approved route. I picked up a 63 plate with 8500 miles, auto, black display, heated seats, sun glass., lumber seats for just over £20500

This was about 4 weeks ago. The approved warranty adds value in my book. The price was cheaper than the ones on auto trader and private

I could have gone brand new but even with discount was looking at £27500 for spec I had. So I saved £7000. My car may be 2 years old but it looked brand new. I also do not like the rear of the new model and hate the new style wheel so refused to pay £7000 for just a prettier front.

Pistonheads is always good to look at too. Plus their daily car news is a good read.

Thanks guys for the info, I am tempted by the new car route but want to test the water first with a second hand one, then maybe a year or two go for new. Maybe in the next week or two someone might decide to sell on here. Will have a look on pistonheads tonight.

That 63 plate sounds a decent buy from the BMW dealers, was it advertised at that price or did you have to go in with your size 10's ?

Yes I noticed that one, just a bit of a trek for me being in Staffordshire. I have just noticed its dropped to £19999 as well. Might see if they will do a deal with delivery as I have no PX. Thanks

Decent enough deal there although the £7,000 buys a little more than a new front end...Think 2 year new car warranty, 0 miles, fresh consumables, not farted in, etc etc... But still, clearly a good deal !!

OP - I moved from a 125d after thinking the 125d would tick all the boxes - did it fcuk :lol2:

the m135i is a cracking car and worth the extra (in real life very few) pennies more

As above - buying used if you aren't careful you can quickly hit a tyre and brake pad bill if you aren't diligent. That's about £1k, plus little things like old Nav maps and with the very early cars an older wheel, no speed limiter etc. So - the price paid needs to reflect this, particularly with current discounts.

I was originally going to go for an 18-36 month old M135i but once i seen the discounts available on new i changed my mind in 2 minutes. I ended up paying £6,000 more but with that i got a new car, full warranty, new lci model, picked the options that i need/wanted, 5 year service pack and that fact i'll know it hasn't been ragged.

....ragged, crashed, owned by me, etc.... :lol2:

A HPI check will not reveal that a used car has been in a huge accident sadly, only if it has been stolen / written off.

Well tried BMW Coopers Durham today and low and behold its sold. Suppose got to be patient and one will turn up. Hope I dont get side tracked and end up buying a 125d by being impatient!

I am also keeping a close eye on the 2nd hand market and I am ready to pull the trigger when a 5 door auto pops up.

My personal opinion on buying new vs used. It all comes down to personal preference. I would prefer to buy used only because I dont want to take the 7k hit for 2 years worth of driving. I can only see it losing 3-4k over a further 2-3 years of driving

This one looks a good but is private
" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

I have noticed that the prices are very difficult to understand on these. There is hardly any difference between Private and Trade on the prices. Are the private sellers overpricing their cars? Seems like it.

There are some with highish miles (60k plus) up for 18-18.5k wheras low mileage examples (circa 20) are only 1k-1500 more. You would expect to see alot more spread on the prices

Don't buy a 125d over a M135i! In my opinion they aren't even in the same class.... Diesel is good for taxis, tractors and trucks not for petrol heads. You can't really compare a inline 6 turbo petrol to an oil burner. I can't remember a single time where anyone gets truly excited by MPG however acceleration and exhaust note is another kettle of fish...
