LCI - What benefits?

3358 Views 44 Replies 20 Participants Last post by  Mike Roberts
As per title really, what advantages over my 2014 model?

I'm starting to really like the LCI and was thinking we might get a better deal going for as late as possible LCI rather than try for a M140i when ever they are due to hit the showrooms.

Thanks in advance.
Andy.

It's got a prettier nose, and you have no option not to pay for Nav, but that's about your lot.

Oh, and there aren't any headlight washers or xenon ballasts to go wrong, but I'm yet to be convinced LED's are any better (light output).
I'm getting turned on by the rear end!
When it was released they made a bit out of the gearbox being location aware via GPS to help it predict gearshifts, not sure its of much benefit? Cars with pro media only.

Other than that, depending on the age of your car:
A2DP (music streaming to the car via bluetooth) standard
Extended storage standard
Business Nav standard
Black instrument panel standard
LED lights standard (ref Marco's point above).

Relatively minor stuff I suppose.

Would you imagine there will be some "deals" to be had when the 140 is just around the corner, do you think dealers will want to clear the decks of the 135s?
I've made the same move - if you haven't seen it already my thoughts are below.

I think its an improvement in every way with the exception of the LEDs.

Better equipped with nav, interior storage, tyre pressures etc all standard over my March 2014 car. Better looking from every angle - now I have the lCi and have seen the rear in detail I think it looks great and is an improvement - just my view but I think there are more changes to the angle of the rear boot panel too. When I look at pictures of my old 14 plate the changes are striking and I really do prefer the new shape.

I've found that the handling, especially at the front end has improved. Feels more solid, stable, and willing to change direction than previous - though I accept this could just be placebo, or the fact its a brand new car with brand new dampers etc, compared to my 26k miler that I traded in. However my dealer said he'd had plenty of people reporting the same.

For me the switch has been a huge success, and I managed to do it for not an awful lot more than a full set of new tyres.

I would say that I think I prefer the xenons though. The LEDs are good but to my eye but they seem a little bit washed out and I don't think they have the intensity of the xenons. This is disappointment for me because, living in Scotland, half the year both ends of my commute are in darkness.

But overall I'm well happy, and in a wider sense I'm glad I stuck to the M135 over 3 series etc. Its just a great car.

I'm in an LCI 135, and only a couple of minutes along the road from you.

Give me a shout if you wanted to look at one back to back with yours.

Cheers, thanks for that.
Isn't the general consensus that the lci exhaust is a bit noisier too?

As standard I mean
Howay Andy, 1900 miles in almost 2 years and you want to change to LCI, madness isn't it??

I'm waiting (and hoping) for the M140i, if it appears then I'm definitely having one, last of the rear drive era hot hatches!

Deals are already there to be had! Can't really see them giving too much more off. Some are already getting 20%+ discounts.

You know me Eric, I don't like high milers. :lol2:

We've been going a bit mad lately anyway.

Short shift on the manual gearbox

Really? 1900 miles in two years. 700 miles of a run-in M135 in 2 years!

If I had a special car for weekends then I'd pick something completely different. I'd either go for a two seater roof down job like an elise, or possibly bag an old classic like a 635 csi.

It was probably bought at the wrong time as we bought a Ka for our daughter to learn to drive in only a few weeks after and it was easier to use the Ka than get the the blue 'un out of the garage and I also have my own car so there was always another two to choose from before the M135 hence the low mileage!

It's used most weeks now.

:) Well if I had the choice of driving a Ford Ka or an M135 id be getting the M135 out the garage - even if the garage was 10 miles away! :)
