I have owned a E81 118i M Sport for 9 months now, unfortunately the rear diff decided to go on it and has been getting progressively worse. I gather this is a common problem with people not changing the oil in the diff.

I have found a replacement part and was wondering how much it should cost to get the part fitted?

Any indication on time it would take to fit the replacement rear diff would be great.

Is this time just to swap a diff or rebuild a diff

Swap one on a ramp is 2 hours max
To rebuild is a Different story

Yeah he's probably on about remove and refit price.

They do the job in like an hour or two but they charge more labour over the difficulty of the job..

I wouldn't pay anymore than £200

You'd need knew bolts as well ideal protocol and they aren't cheap.

Most indi garages use autodata so it's a set time anyway regardless how difficult the job is

Yeah but if a mechanics charged at hourly rate and it only took 2 hours to do as you said, that's like £80 in it.. Loool but obviously no ones gonna do that job for £80

Well that's the way it works especially where I work
If you can forsee problems and bolts need to be cut out etc Yes the price can change a little but 99% of jobs are autodata times

Yeah I am on about removing the old one and fitting it with the replacement part which I have sourced.

I will call around a few more garages but obviously im looking for the cheapest quote! :lol2:

Out of interest does anyone know how much I can sell the old one for?

Apparently a bearing has gone on mine which is causing a whine, I understand people rebuild them.

It won't fit.

Plus he already had the part.
