Hello all. I have a Bmw 118d which I've replaced the engine. Where I have had the car off the road soo long the key and spare have no batterie and are not changeable batteries. I'm wondering if the keys are dead will they still retain they're code or will I need a new key or whatever else ?
When I try start the car it just seems too turn over and over with no coughs or nothing and I can hear the fuel pump activating. One fault I'm getting is fuel pump malfunction and yet if I take the pipes off the injectors its feeding and returning fuel. Has anyone else had this problem or can help ? Thank you Josh.

If there is fuel getting to injectors and they arnt letting fuel through I would look at your crank sensor see if this is faulty. But would have thought a fault code would be stored. Are you getting a spark on all 4 plugs?

If you've replaced the mill, do the injectors require coding to the ecu? Cant remember if this is needed with the diesels...

Crank position sensor has been checked all over , I've even replaced the cps and the reluctor ring behind the flywheel, still no joy. No engine lights at all the only lights are a bulb out and the date n time setting lights and of course the one that looks like the service light which is 309 which in fault lists tells me is the fuel pump. And yes the car is push too start but I thought the fob was on the key which is a solid unit. And also no it's the same Ecu as before but I have swapped looms and everything else too try and match up.

Ah so you're back.

118d with a 120d transplant right, can't seem to get it to fire?

If they key is turning on the ignition, then you're fine. The fact the car isn't starting is something else.

Bleed the injector rail again.

You'll also need to get the 120d injectors coded.

Why didn't you replace the 118d ECU with the 120d ECU? You'll need that as well.

I an believing this is a immobiliser problem but where to start and I want too make sure. The fuel pump is pumping non stop even after the car stops turning over. One thing that questions the immobiliser is the car security alarms activates when I undo the door with the key but immediately stops when I push the key on the ignition so it must be holding the codes ? It also undies the steering lock. The key is not a turntable key for its push too start.and also I would have had the Ecu for the 120d but I was only sold the engine. Is this not possible too keep swap my 118d injectors fitted ? Thanks

Fit the proper injectors, fit the proper ecu, get everything coded properly and then it will work. There really isn't anything else to it.

I didn't relised that you put a 120d engine in it. How come you didn't put the 118d in? You have made loads of work and expense. Ecu won't recognise your injectors so they won't fire in sequence. You will need to get ecu that will need to be coded. You shouldn't need to code the injectors but may as well get them coded why you have inpa and tool32 running.

Thank you for your replies.
It's looking like I'm not gonna be able too get the original Ecu for my replacement engine. When you say fit the proper injectors Ecu etc... I take it you mean 120d parts ?
Thanks again everyone.

Well basically my father was helping me search for an engine and thought he'd surprise me by buying one... Turns out was the 120d but too be fair the company matched up the engine codes because apparently they are both the same. I know the injectors won't run with that Ecu which is why I thought I could put my 118d injectors in ?

In trying to think about this now. But you've made so many posts it's all a bit of a moss match.

So you've swapped the new engine in. What turbo have you got on the engine (120 or 11:cool2:, what wiring loom etc etc. List all the parts you've have swapped out for 120d parts.

Do you have INPA? Have you read the fault codes to see what are present? All of them? Post them up on here too.

Haha yeah I can see what you mean.
Right well obviously I've gone from 118d too 120d. 120d came with no altinator or steering pump or air con so I fitted the 118d parts.
Inlet manifold off 118d because no swirl flaps.
Wiring loom from 118d including glow plugs ect.
Diesel pump from 118d.
Fuel rail from 118d.
Injectors from 118d.
Ecu from 118d.
Turbo from 118d.
All sensors from 118d.
Swapped all the crank position sensor and reluctor ring and even replaced which all seem too be matching parts for both engines like all most of the other parts.

I've only got the on board computer which is telling me
Indicator bulb
Tyre pressure
Time and date
And one that looks like a service light with the car on a lift but is coming up as 309 which I believe is fuel pump malfunction.

I will write down the exact codes coming up in a about an hour after doctors...struggeing with a Bmw and a broken leg haha.
