Ok , I have decided to sell my TMC in the coming weeks. It's a great piece of kit but I want more :) anyone who is interested can PM me.

I have been through the burgertuning pages and guides and cannot seem to find the answer to one question.

The OBDii connector thing - does it plug into the front or the back of our current OBDii ports. The guide looks quite neet as the OBDii port is under the footwell but on our m135i it is to the right hand side in full view. Has anyone installed this yet ? If so any guide on how to get a nice clean instal any pictures would be nice too.

secondly should I go for the data cable or can I just buy the jb4 connect app and a Bluetooth/wifi OBDii thing from eBay.

Any help is much appreciated , I know this subject is worn thin already but I cannot seem to find the answer.

Thanks
Chris

Hi Mate, Yes I've installed it. You don't need the adapter cable that BMS sell, you use the existing posi-tap connecter and connect to the rear on the obdii port. Its requires the removal of the bottom of the dash and cover where the cable release is. You then feed the can bus wires from the JB4 through the cable release grommet in the firewall and posi-tap onto the rear of the obdii port.

Like this but with the port still in its position.

I would just go for the JB4 connect kit, although having the USB cable is always a nice back up route to connect, etc.

Thanks for the prompt response !

Hmm I would really like to use the plug and play plug to save me using the positaps, is it not possible with our cars ?

Am I right in saying all I would need for jb4 connect is a blutooth thing from eBay that plugs into my OBDii? Lastly I take it firmware updates etc you need the cable.

Not really as the OBDii port on rhd cars doesn't allow for anything to be plugged in with any amount of permanency as its in the door shut. This is where the JB4 will differ from the TMC, certainly less plug and play but rewards regarding performance and functions are well worth it with a little initial effort to install.

You need to order the connect kit from the chap who makes it. " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Firmware updates (and pretty much everything else) can be made by the Jb4 app too.

Copperman I am needing to do this rather urgently.

Can you confirm its green positap to light grey obd and brown positap to blue obd.?

I have just been sent a new F series and it's not working properly on the JB4 connect app, the dials are not moving in the app and I am assuming my old positap connection is the issue.

Thanks.

No need plenty long enough. I'd pass it through the bonnet cable release grommet. Easy access from inside.
Thanks, so if I remove the lower cover under the steering wheel and the right hand panel I should be able to see the bonnet release wires going into the bay and fee through that?

I just realised the brown and green wire can be pulled out through the black plastix cover and it will be long enough thanks for confirming.

Cannot find the bonnet cable release grommit, I have unplugged my lower console under my steering wheel and removed the side panel off where the bonnet release handle is.

lol well I almost did it, I can't see anywhere I can feed wires from bay to under car so I am going to a local BMW indie near me they said they can do it for ÂŁ35.
Bit of a nightmare as I have almost done it myself ah well at least I tried.

Watts save yourself some money, it's right at the top of the bulkhead on the lefthandside just above the cable harness in the corner. You can follow the cable on the top left (drivers) side of the engine bay.

I found it there was a spare grommit In the engine bay next to the bonnet release cable so I pulled the spare grommit out and I could see into the footwell.

I made a little hole and put both wires through this and I have now connected via obd port. A bit of faffing about but glad I did it myself and now I know what to do I could sort it out in no time at all if I ever needed to.

Now to get my head round operating the JB4 in dash with the BC button. :)

One last thing I have noticed my avg_ign is blank and it's not got any data yet the positap connection and my old firmware didn't have any issues getting the correct info.

Any reason why avg_ign is not displaying anything?

I used the spare one too :) all good now.

Will be time to remove and trade in soon.... Or keep it, undecided yet.
