Hi back again need some more help I have now got my car legal on the road but my sat nav and stereo are usless my local BMW dealer has had car for two days to tell me that it can be programmed with UK region and sat nav doset work on gps and will not take a UK bmw head unit . so my options are to put an aftermarket head unit in and live with the pop up screen in the dash not doing half its functions or find someone who knows away to fix this .
Or is my best opption is to find a stereo with bluetooth ,sat nav which will work with the stearing buttons and will still let the parking and warning sounds to still to come throw the speakers .
to be honest I feel let down with BMW with regards to lack of help .
any input would be great

Easiest and cheapest option is probably go to with an Aftermarket stereo but even then you're looking at about £1000 fully fitted inc stereo, parts, labour. My Pioneer AVH-X8500BT came to £700 fully fitted. It has everything apart from NAV/DAB.

As been said, your best option would be to replace the lot with an aftermarket unit.

Has it got the upgraded sound system?

I would remove the screen and replace with a dash storage pocket and replace the head unit with an aftermarket one.

Does any of the car functions work through the current navigation system? If so, then this will be a problem

Where abouts in the Uk are you as I may be able to supply and fit it all.

Thanks dose it look good in the dash and will the stearing functions work with it
Yes, all steering functions, PDC, beeps and bongs will work. Just make sure you get the right stalk control if you are sourcing all the bits yourself. It will look similar to this in the dash:

Put your postcode in here to find a reputable ICE installer: " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Anything you do will have problems I think because you have an import car. IIRC going back a few years, changing the stereo in an import car was doable but sometimes the plugs were different and needed hardwiring then the radio reception wouldn't work as expected.

Granted this is going back years and technology has moved on a lot but still it's worth considering the potential problems.

Then just plug in a £5 GPS antenna & hide it behind a A-Pillar!?

Are you able to pick up radio stations. If the radio doesn't work, then Id just swap over the diversity antenna with a UK version.

You might have everything but lose radio because of the fact it's a Jap car.

Bud, you can change the stereo, you'll lose the top screen & iDrive BUT you will have a working stereo, navigation you'll probably even be able to keep with an aftermarket stereo because it will have it's own GPS receiver, antenna and it's own navigation module. You will probably lose radio though because of the difference in frequencies/bands between UK and Japan (bit of a crude explanation though but that's what I suspect will happen).
