Hi

I have a 118d m sport (58 reg) and have had some issues where the time keeps resetting itself when i get into the car
The issue is intermittent and has been occurred around a few times this week
Prior to this happening i did get the battery warning sign come on about two weeks ago but this has not came on since

I am also getting the service symbol come on which is showing in amber colour but this then goes off after a while

any ideas what the issue could be- i assume it can only be the battery but am not 100% sure. I have moved to Coventry and do not have a lot of trust in the local mechanics who seem to be very dishonest therefore would like some advice before i took it to a money grabbing cheat of a mechanic.

As above sounds like the battery or possibly a battery drain,
When the battery voltage in the car is low a relay called 30g-f is activated, this cuts power suply power from going to non essential control units in attempt to prevent the vehicle from not being able to be started, the control units that it cuts the power from hold the date and time settings,
So if your clock has been reset its trying to protect the battery and avoid a non start situation.

It's annoying but not as annoying as a flat battery in the morning :)

If you listen to the stereo with engine off do you get a low battery warning after a few minutes ?
Does your rear screen demister still work ?
How about your auto stop/start - Im guessing that hasnt worked for a while either

All signs of a poor battery. And if its now turning off the clock, which cant use much anyway, battery must be pretty sick or under-charged.

Replaced the battery and all your problems will be fixed. Remember to replace like for like and it will need coding to the car.
