Guys looking to hook up an old sj4000 camera within the car to use as an incar security camera, plan is to fix it with a sticky pad to the rear off the mirror and have it powered via the cigar lighter plug so as to switch on and off automatically. car is a 2012 120D msport E88 which as far as I can see has a power plug down at the ashtray area and also at the centre arm rest area.
so okay anyone here been there and done that ??!! looking for easiest / neatest way off getting power up to the camera any advice / installation tips ?

anyone here running one off the sj4000 or similar cams ?

Hi Jono.
I recently installed a Transcend Drivepro into mine. I ran the wire through the headlining over to the passenger side pillar. I couldn't seem to prize the pillar cover off, and I didn't wan to pull it too hard, so I just tucked the wire in-between it and the windscreen, pushing it in the gap so it doesn't move.
I ran it down the side of the glovebox and then underneath in the footwell (reach right back and the plastic ends down where your feet go). From there it's a simple tuck underneath the centre console for the remaining wire.

Took me about ten minutes, no tools, nothing extra required. I'll get some pics if you need them and would be any use?

Okay tom thanks you so much for your quick reply ! okay can I just clarify that the cigar lighter plug is actualy plugged into the centre consul socket or have you taken a feed away from the actual socket ? due to the size off the plug on my particular lead I would prfer to have it hidden for a neater install and that way the flap covering the ashtray / lighter socket could still be used.
believe the newer models have a socket under the passenger fottwell which would be great for a hiding this plug .
but yes if you do get a chance to take / upload a few pics then I am sure that would be off some help thanks.

Yes, sorry, I should have clarified that. It's plugged into the centre console. The plug on mine is large too, so it renders the ash tray cover useless, it has to be open all of the time. I wanted the option to be able to remove it if necessary, and I didn't want to mess about chopping wires.

I'll get some pics up for you.
