I've got a 120d 2008 with start stop technology, I'm after a new battery, can anyone point me in the right direction of a decent battery at a reasonable price.. Does anyone know the manufacturers recommendations?

Oh and what are the best brands to look for?

Have a look at the battery and find the CCA and AH. It'll be written on the top and something like 80AH and probably around 850CCA.

As a minimum you need to replace it with one of the same specs, yours will be AGM type and will need to be coded to the car.

Once you have found a battery with the same specs, make a note of the number. (It'll probably be something like 110 in your case). Mine was 096.

Head over to justcarbatteries.co.uk and have a look on there. I've just bought a Bosch S6 096 from them for £123 delivered, which is AGM and an exact match to my original battery (70AH 760CCA) and comes with a 6 year guarantee.

Fitted and coded myself using the carly app. Find someone local who's got the app, chuck em a tenner for the battery add on and bobs your uncle.

To fit the battery follow these steps I' posted in another thread:

1. Remove the metal piece that goes across the battery tray. 2 x 10 mm bolts.

2. Remove the battery holder clamp completely (right hand side next to the negative terminal, long cross head with screw driver or 10mm socket)

3. There was a black lead on mine that's clipped near to where the big red wires comes off off the box and goes into the chassis - pop this off.

4. Unclip the red positive box from the sides of the battery using your fingers, just reach down each side and unclip the metal and the massive red plastic box will pop off.

5. Disconnect negative terminal and insulate with a plastic bag or similar.

6. Disconnect the positive terminal from the battery.

7. Undo the 13mm nut holding the big fat red lead coming from the massive red box onto the chassis (left of the two nuts, you'll see what I mean if yours is the same). You can now move the big red box and everything out the way. Again insulate this from touching anything.

8. Disconnect drain pipe.

9. Lift out battery.

10. Fit new battery.

11. Fit drain pipe

12. Fit clamp down the side

13. Reconnect red lead to chassis and tighten nut.

14. Clip big red box back on top of batteery

15. Fit positive terminal

16. Fit negative terminal

17. Clip black wire back in place

18. Refit metal piece.

Easy enough, just make sure that you don't touch either of the connections on anything. Insulate them with plastic bags if you're not sure.

I just put the key in and let everything fire up without pressing the button on mine for a min.

I fitted a new battery into mine last week. A Bosch 115 AGM costing £153.36 from ECP. Registered the battery using someone local to me with his Carly App. I believe you need to do this so that the car charges the battery up at the correct chargingrate? I could be wrong, mind you. I now have the Carly App and dongle myself so can register batteries myself..... as well as other things

Just about to change my battery and you said the red positive box will pop off, mines fastened in with a nut? No other way to take it off? Does it need to come off or can I take the negative off?

Are you talking about the terminal clamp (ie the ring that's connected to the battery terminal) or the red box ontop of the battery? Upload a photo and circle what you mean.

The terminals should be a 10mm bolt but the connection box just clips on, pull gently out at sides and should pop off, I got my battery from carparts4less same company as euro car parts just cheaper and usually got discount codes on their home page,I paid 149 for a 95ah agm as needed it for the convertible
