Home security

Hi all,

After a catalytic converter theft I've decided to invest in some home security, specifically CCTV.

My research so far has been brief but the Ring flood light camera looks pretty good. I'm after something that notifies you when there's movement and also has an alarm which the ring flood light has.

Anyone here have experience with a ring device or any other cctv brand? Reviews seem to be pretty mixed with the ring flood light camera.

Thanks

Sorry about this.

However, the sh!t heads do not care about CCTV.

Evidential wise a court will want straight on head clear clear image's of them. A half decent defence lawyer will easily get his client off.

Most CCTV is way up so it is out of reach so it cannot be tampered with.

If something were to happened to your prized possession that you have worked hard for then you just spend hours watching it get taken away.

Better if shoring up you house/garage so they can't get to the stuff you have.
I have the Blink system and find it very good.

My thinking is due to a smart camera being able to notify you as soon as movement is detected, the camera alarm can be triggered before they can even get under the car which may deter them.

In alot of the footage I've seen online, the car owner doesn't realise the CAT is being stolen until a racket is being made from the angle grinder but by that point it's too late. Making the thieves know you're aware of them as soon as they step foot on the drive will hopefully put them off.

I know it's not a guaranteed deterrent but if there's a chance then I think it's worth it. I'll also being getting a cat lock installed so that will add some time if they still choose to go ahead and cut the CAT out and being notified by the smart camera will allow the police to be called asap.

Cheers, will have a proper look into it, from a quick browse it's much cheaper than the Ring cameras which is good.
My garage two minutes ago. Pitch black and no internal lights on.

Oct, garages are to park cars in! :lol2:

I have Arlo cams and door bell, I recommend.
Its a good in theory, but you have to remember that even if an eye witness spotted them on their way up to the car about to steal the CAT and called police straight away - they still wouldn't be there in time to intercept and arrest them. The call has to get through, the handler has to populate fields, the call then goes into a digital pathway routing it to the relevant area who then have ot acknowledge it, then they have to source a free unit, notify and assign them before they start making their way. This can be done in anywhere between 2 to 10 minutes depending on a call handlers competence and availability of units.

So average it out at 4 mins to process - then add travelling time of anywhere between 2 mins and 20 mins. Hence why the target time for emergency calls is 10 minutes ( and often not met ).
I saw a toe rag breakling in to next doors car late one night
called the police and as I was on the phone giving them more details, there was a knock at the door
two bobbies and a panda cars outside
They had been coming down the road as I rang - how flukey was that
Off they went and caught him

Does happen - good result. If the call is circulated quick enough and someone is nearby you can get a very quick response!
Yep, but the bad bit, the coppers came back to my house to tell me they caught with him sitting in the back seat
Thanks for showing him where I live - you plonkers
TBH, any system that you have shelled out a few hundred dollars will put them off. They will hopefully go to the next property that has no security at all. I'm happy with my Arlo, and of course a wired PIR alarm system.
