So the [sarcasm] amazing [/sarcasm] 125i is starting to make a high pitched whine from the engine bay when under load or lifting off the throttle. The noise changes pitch in accordance to the revs of the car so I presume it is something involved with the revs. A very similar noise is made from my friends N47 and it resulted in being the high pressure fuel pump regulator.

Anyone experienced this at all?

When it's doing it next, can you pop your ear by the tail pipe whilst someone else revs her for you?

N20's are having oil pump issues which cause a whine which sounds like a noisy turbo,if you take it in i suggest they check the crankshaft end-float aswell

This is what happens when robots start to build the engines

Not having much luck with this car are you Paul?

Have you thought about rejecting the car under the sale of goods act as not fit for purpose?

Well one suggestion is the High pressure fuel pump regulator as well, so it could be a multitude of things, mostly serious it sounds like. Would this need booking in asap or can it wait for a few weeks?
Can anyone recommend a decent dealer in the North West who has competent technicians and management?

Scrounger - That route has been investigated but I am so exhausted with the dealership located in the same town as a famous tower, that I am looking at a 500 Abarth or something similar to get away from the BMW brand.

Paul. I feel your pain mate. Personally I only go to Williams in Liverpool. They are excellent. Parking is great and free wifi and as much tea and coffee as you like.

Take it there and see what they say. I've just had my 125 serviced there and will be taking the new one there as well. Used them for servicing on all my minis.mention you've had issues with another dealers service center and see what they can do.

It isn't a belt, however the noise was only between 2000 and 2500 rpm but now is further through the rev range. It also only happens when lifting off the throttle in gear, but I know it definitely isn't the gearbox.
