My car decided to give out a lovely "WOOOO" tone during acceleration, Turbo shaft appears sturdy intact and no play. there is no smoke and all pipes appear to be intact has anyone else had this issue.

Its clearly turbo as car tries to boost but cant.

Ill upload video would be great if its not a failed turbo and just something I've missed :( :(

Can you get someone else to rev her whilst you poke about under the bonnet for boost leaks, etc?

At 10 years old, your £1000 turbo was probably taken out because nobody changed a £30 filter. :(. Make sure the PCV block breather is changed while it's all apart, or the next turbo will only last a few miles.

Post up the last 7 digits of your VIN number and we'll tell you all about her. :)

It's the block breather. BMW changed it from a filter known as a 'loo roll' to a vortex type seperator (like a Dyson).

To be fair to your garage, it's not on any service schedule, so even BMW wouldn't have changed it (out of warranty period).

Bomber had kindly done you a nice guide here:
And it's only a working theory, it might just have died of old age, or still might be a boost leak. Double check you definitely have a vortex breather though!

I just a ran a diagnostic and these codes came up:

4530 charge air pressure control, control deviation.
3ff0 Air-mass flow sensor

Could these be linked to my turbo issues? im assuming 4530 indicates a boost leak??

Ive found a split in my intake hose - and lots of carbon build up in the intake could this be causing my issue?
A boost leak? Nice! You might be in luck yet. If only somebody had have suggested that on Saturday morning! :lol2: Is it the elbow between intercooler and EGR?

They all get a bit carboned up inside the metal EGR body. Take it off, cut the worst out with a scalpel or similar, then have a go with some oven cleaner.

And whatever you do, don't forget to check which block breather you have fitted! :)

Block breather??
The filter we discussed at length on the first page.

You can try a few breakers, but helpfully they often saw through the charge pipes while they're yanking engines out! :eek2:
