hello all, sorry if this has already been covered. I am having issues with the gearbox in my car as follows. It started with not being able to smoothly engage first gear to first gear completely popping out of gear into neutral once passing biting point. The issue is intermittent and it happens when the car is warm and cold. I am absolutely certain that my clutch pedal is fully pressed when changing gear so I'm not sure why it is not sitting correctly. Oh and when it does pop out of gear, the sound it makes is horrific, like a firm loud jolt as if another car has hit me. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

NOTE: my car is an E87 118d MSPORT. 07

:( Sounds like the dogs/syncros or selector forks are shot, time to find yourself a replacement, or look at getting yours refurbished.

Difficulty in selecting 1st gear, especially when cold, is a common complaint. However popping out of gear isnt to my knowledge.
Out of curiosity, how many miles has the car done and has the gearbox oil ever been changed ?

You're going to need to get it diagnosed locally, depends what's wrong, and why.

You might find a seal's gone, and that's taken out everything else? Or that you (or previous owner) has been 'riding' the gear lever and that's worn the forks?

Must be a few good transmission specialists in Manc? I can find you London prices, but I'm not sure how relevant that'll be?

Thanks Marco i should be able to have someone take a look locally. Yes unfortunately London is a bit too far out for me. I hope it's not too serious.. we shall see!
