When the gauge reads empty you will always have a few litres left. Its to stop you running the tank dry.

 

The computer is pretty damn accurate in my 125d. It's out by about 2% compared to the usual 10% of previous cars.

 

The range varies depending on the recent mpg achieved so both could be right!

 

With 12 litres left in the tank 60 miles seems right to me.

Usually 300ish to a full tank, averaging 26.7mpg over 800 miles

 

^I seem to be averaging 26-28mpg. Alas there hasn't been much traffic so I've been struggling to resist the urge to "let it off the leash" a few times a day. Quick bit of maths suggests a range of around 250-270 miles. I daresay if I could learn self control it'd be easy to get more like 320.

Yes I admit it I have been running it in and taking it easy

Two tanks and got 350 and 360 miles! This is my 'work' car so doing 70 in Eco Pro will give you this range. What a superb place to sit and cruise up the motorway.

I guess I was pretty enthusiastic this morning so the range would have dropped due to the reduced mpg.

It's a pretty small tank as well which I am not used to so I guess this all makes sense.

 

It will be my work car, I do a lot of motorway so I thought I'd be able to get around 350 when I'm motorway cruising for work, I'm getting about 33mpg combeined from my jcw

Tbh just cruising it will give you that sort of return but you have to be disciplined lol!

Motorway cruising 70 to 80 in EP mode I get 37.5 mpg which I reckon is bloody impressive.

Mixed driving with some heavy right foot gives 28 to 32

Just driven a 150 mile round trip at 70mph. Tank range registering as 454 miles to empty and achieved 39.8 mpg!

This really is a superb all rounder.

I don't really see the point in buying a sporty car and driving like miss daisy though, if mpg were that important I'd have bought a 125d and still had some fun with a decent return at the pump.
60 miles off quarter of a tank sounds spot on, I'm getting 200 - 240 off a full tank after 3250 miles.

I am just seeing what it could do really. As stated before this is a work as well as play car so it has to be Jeckle and Hyde if that makes sense.

On my blast the other day I averaged 18!

Maybe I'm mental but I do this with every car - kind of like "top trumps" - Max Power, 0-60, max mpg......

Think we may be getting a little O/T but in the same vein as the last few posts I just got back from a little family day out in the Lake District, with 10-week old baby in the car and the roads cho-a-bloc with school holiday traffic I didn't feel the need to do anything other than take it easy - so 70-75 on the motorway and going with the flow on A66/A591 and over 140 miles the car advises it has averaged 40.6mpg, a pretty impressive figure albeit one I'm unlikely to replicate when driving on my own. Filled up this afternoon and was offered a range of 431 miles!

I know achieving this sort of mileage is kind of at odds with the performance of the car but it's good to know it can be surprisingly cheap to fuel for lazy days out as it saves money to waste on hooning around another day

 

Agree it's not the point of the M135i but my mate bought an M3 at the same time and he gets 21mpg at a steady 70 lol.

The point is that this is a superlative all rounder. In fact I can't think of a reason not to by one if you're I'm the market........ Ok........ok.........the looks are arguably a bit "unusual"!!!

The bottom line is this is a 4.7 second to 62 rocket (some people are clocking 4.2 and have Dyno'd 340 bhp standard), RWD, £330 to insure, £295 to tax, 38 - 40 mpg when you want to cruise, comfortable (the best seats I've ever experienced), well equipped, decent size boot, decent rear passenger space and reasonably priced car.

A family hatchback and supercar baiter in one.

I am really struggling to think of a package that does all of this for £30k.

Does the OBC somehow work out the cars overall use of fuel and come up with what it predicts you will get each time you fill, as I've yet to see my 'offering' go above about 330 max?

My understanding is that the OBC bases the "range" on the last 20 miles or so that you have driven. I filled up having been pootling along at ~50mph in traffic through the Lakes, hence the (massively surprisingly) high potential range. It'll say 320-330 again by tomorrow morning and probably 250 by the evening because I'll be driving "normally" again on my daily 25-mile round trip

Don't think I'd get insurance for £330 as my lowest quote is £1200 for a 120d lol
