Hi there,

Not exactly on the 1 series platform, but its N54 related. My 335i started to play up just short of 2 weeks ago... Missfire, limp mode, shuddering and just running like a bag flashing DSC/DTC faults up on the screen.
Read the faults and had 30BA, great DME Mosfet failure. Had the MOSFETS done and shes still playing up.

Prior to the MOSFETS being done, I tried several things to see if other things had failed, like changing injectors around, coil packs etc...
But each code clear and re-read kept coming up with more codes. These are as followed:

Fault Code read 1:
30BA - Dreaded DME code
29CF
29CE
29CC
2C77

Clear them and carry out Fault Code read 2:
30BA
29CF
29CE
29CC
2C77
2E30
2E18
30A0
2C3B
30A1

Clear them and carry out the third fault reading:
30BA
29CF
29CE
29CC
2C77
2E30
2E18
30A0
2C3B
30A1
29CD
29D9

As you can see the problems were getting progressively worse and I knew for sure the MOSFETS must had been dead. So removed the ECU and low and behold injector 1 MOSFET was dead, so got a PCB repair guy to change to MOSFET and put it back in the car.

Go and continue with the job this morning and now I'm flowed with these codes:
30A1
2EC1
30AB
2E30
2E31

This is where it can get a little interesting as the 2E3x is input signals for injectors, well it sometimes flashes up Cylinder 1 and 2, then sometimes flashs up 2 and 3. But I've even tried swapping the injectors over on each back and see if the faults jump to the next bank but stay there, I've swapped coil packs around and even swapped the plugs over on the o2 sensors just incase that was causing the issues. But have just stayed with those codes.
2EC1 is a missfire on cylinder 5, which Ive swapped a coil over for cylinder 6 with plug to see if would jump but remains on cylinder 5.

Also done test readings on HPFP and that will run to 99.6 to 99.7%. Have done a reading on the throttle valve though and when I activate that to 99% it only goes to 80.8%?

Anyone else had a headache like this and could maybe point me in the right direction as its showing the injectors are fine, other than maybe a wire lose? I've even checked the pins on the DME and they're also all fine. I'm just hoping the DME isn't completely shafted?

If someone could give some guidance on this would be much appreciated as my brain is frazzled.

I don't believe you have that many faults and random ones so something must be causing them?

JB4 is off the car completely at present as at first I thought maybe the JB4 was playing funny buggers after what I have read with the boards in the JB4 some times not being great, but once removed it was acting exactly the same.

Injectors can't be dead, but I'm just wondering if the DME is pretty much shafted even after the MOSFET repair. Because moving an injector which is saying faulty to another cylinder on different bank and the fault code not jumping over to said bank and remaining on the one which first threw the code up is weird. And definitely when it cant make its mind up on which injector isnt actually getting an input signal???

cant see any water damage or presence around any electrical modules. Im having a chat with BMW master tech from my area Monday see if he can shed any light. As the faults are just weird how they just stay on the same cylinders every time even after changing things. Can see it being a £400 ECU rebuild jobby.

I wouldn't entertain ecu driver repairs unless there is no other option, you rely on the skills of the people doing the job

I'm in the trade my self and about 10% of engine ecu repairs actually work

The rate % of repairs on abs ecus is much higher

Try " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Com

I have been sent down the garden path to many times getting suspect faulty ecus tested and told they are good to find out they are not

I'm with rob on this one. I think you're going to have to bite the bullet and get a new DME before doing anything else.

If it doesn't fix your problem, you can always send it back.

There's a problem there electrical items from bmw especially coded ones can't be returned
A nice eBay or used item is needed

I'm guessing a genuine new part would be expensive

All it takes is static or solder splatter while doing a repair and it may never work correctly again

Ive bought a used DME from eBay with all the correct numbers on.

Only downside is trying to align the bugger. Using WinKfp to change the VIN number and then write it to the ECU. But in INPA its coming up that the ECU is locked. But we believe we missed out putting the ZB# so dont know if it coded correctly. And brought the right module up.
So we are trying again tomorrow, then use DIS to align the DME with the EWS. Definitely not a 5 minute job and a bit of a head scratcher.
