Lots of sites are now reporting that the car everyone was expecting to be the F40 LCI is in fact a completely new model, designated F70. The F40 1 Series will not be getting a facelift, and will be discontinued at some point in 2023 with the F70 launching in Summer 2024.

This is driven by BMW consolidating its entire product line into two platforms. The UKL2 architecture underpinning the F40 is being replaced with the FAAR (Frontantriebsarchitektur) architecture, which is broadly similar but allows for complete interchangeability between different ICE/battery powertrains on a FWD platform with AWD capability.

It's expected that all F70 models will have a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, and at least one plug-in hybrid model (rumoured to be named 130e) will be released.

Some spy shots and a vid are below – note the quad exhaust on what's believed to be the F70 version of the M135iX!
