I have a 2005 120d se. In the menu, the temperature was showing as getting no hotter than 70 degrees, roughly. So I replaced the thermostat. It will only go hotter than this when on the motorway, where it goes up to around 86 degrees. As soon as I come off the motorway, the temperature drops to around 75 degrees and stays around there. Anybody any ideas what's going on?
Cheers

I'd change the EGR 'stat as well. Luckily it's the cheap and easy one. Right on top of the engine too, so you shouldn't even lose much coolant. :)

As it's an inexpensive part, I'd just try your local BMW parts counter (unless that's a long trek).

If you're in the sticks, try Phil at Cotswold BMW for a good price. Email: [email protected]

Gee, I thought a replacement of the main thermostat would have fixed this problem, would not have thought there was another thermostat in the system. I'm learning a lot here!
Can anyone post up a flow diagram of the coolant system?

Oh! yes I do... Sorry, the petrol engines don't have a EGR... Thanks for subtle reminder.
Delete request for "Coolant flow N46 diagram".
