Hi to all members here,I am new bmw owner and also new member here on babybmw forum...I have e87 120d from 2006 year, 163hp, and more details I will add when i attach photos of my car.In this post i try to introduce my actual problem with car headlights and i hope we can solve that together.
My car have before I change it xenon headlights with separate position light for angel eyes, and that is work perfect. Now i get bi-xenon adaptive headlights and I have two problems what must solve. When i add new headlights i only attach master connector to him and little connector from early headlights is free, because font have room for him to new adaptive bi-xenon headlights.I not made any coding on headlights, and i have normal working main beam, long beam and indicator beam.Only problem with lights is position light-angel eyes, who only work 4 seconds when I turn on lights and then gone, and after that i get error on dashboard about non working position light.Every new starting car and turning lights gets same problem.
Problems:

1.First problem is position light on new adaptive bi-xenon headlight. As I write upper, position work only 4-5 seconds when i turn on lights and then gone off, then get message on dashboard about that.I made photos of old and new headlights and i will attach that here for better explanation. If someone know how to solve this problem please to help me,I will be grateful.

2.Second problem with lights is adaptive lens setup. How to make that to work in my case?I check and i have on car level sensors, also my bi-xenon have own moduls,Im not sure about my light switch in cabin if i need to change and also not sure what footwell module i have, and what more i need to setup that.If someone want help and if someone made this conversation from xenon to adaptive bi-xenon please to help me.

Here is photos of my old and new xenon lights:

I hope someone can help me about this here.My priority is position lights, after that I can made adaptive lens, not hurry, but what to know how to do and what all I need.Latter I will add photo with error from INPA,about headlights at a moment.
Cheers to all members here on forum and if someone need additional information about this please be free to ask me.Thanks again...

Those photo's are all way too big for anyone to look at properly.

Please resize them to 1000 pixels maximum width and reload them

Thanks mate,photos resized.
About first problem with position light, old xenon headlight dont have pin1 on master connector because he have separate connector for position light.New adaptive bi-xenon have pin1 on master connector, and i made measurement on him and when i turn on position light,i have power few seconds on that pin till works, when stop after 4-5 seconds, i lost power on pin1.Also then I lost power on separate connector what is free in this case for position light.Something strange happends about this turning off position lights.Any help?

Ah much better. :)

You have a couple of issues here.

You are trying to replace pre-facelift non-adaptive xenon lights with facelift (LCI) adaptive ones.

The connector block pins are different and changes and/or additions to the wiring may be required - maybe a wire back to the footwell module (FRM)

The adaptive function will need to be coded in to activate.

Since your car was built with xenons, I would expect it to have an FRM2 which I would hope will code for adaptive but you may have to replace it with an FRM3.

I know that replacing non-adaptive with adaptive xenons of the same type (pre-facelift or facelift) is relatively straightforward but I don't know if it is as easy to upgrade from pre-facelift to facelift versions.

Hi again,I made photo of my FRM today, and here is:

What is this model of FRM?

As priority my first problem with position light (work 5 seconds when turn on lights and then go off),I try today to connect to pin1 on master connector, positive wire from separate connector for position from headlights before, and result is same, work also 5 seconds and again position go off.I dont know how to setup that position light-angel eyes.I think maybe coding can help?Again, all others lights work normal, low beam xenon, high beam xenon, all indicators, all work on taillights...Any help ?Thanks

Probably an FRM2.

It's not an FRM3 and it can't be an FRM1 as they don't support xenons.

Need a xenon retro-fit expert to sort it out.

Hi mate, for sure i need some expert to solve all problems with this headlights...But can we find some solution for first problem with position lights?I think i dont need new FRM modul to solve position lights to work normal?

You need to find out first if there is any difference in voltage or wattage between your original (outside the main cover) halo ring bulbs and the facelift (H:cool2: ones.

If they are the same then the problem is probably just in the different wiring pins, if not, then you will also need to re-code (or replace) your FRM.

I check today and old position bulbs in old xenons is 12v-10w,and I dont know what bulb new bi-xenons use for position-angeleyes.Strange is they work from start 5 seconds and then gone off.I do some reading with Inpa and there is 3 errors for footwell module, two errors is for cornering lights of course, and one is for this position light, that error come when i turn on position on switch, and first two is active all the time. Here is some photos from Inpa:

What u can tell me about this mate?
Also I made some research about my FRM and its model FRM2,and on web I found some information about coding, and he support adaptive lights, only need to be coded, and only difference between FRM2 and FRM3 is some follow me home lights, what u think? Thanks

#10 ·
"Signal or value above threshold" The H8 bulbs are 12v 35w. That's probably the cause of your problems as the earlier FRMs are not as tolerant to power changes as the later ones. From 10 to 35 watts is quite a jump.

Adaptive xenons will need coding to work but may not throw an error if not (they may just not work).

Ok mate, lets first solve problem with position light if we can,I think not need FRM3 to solve that problem? What u think, what to do now?To drive to official dealer to try coding if they want to do that or what?Do u think maybe coding can solve probelm with power of 35w to position light throught master connector? Thanks

#12 ·
Don't expect an official dealer to help you as they only help with standard equipment to your car not with any modifications unless they have a worksheet for it - their coding capabilities are limited.

Whereabouts are you?, maybe someone could point you to a local expert.

Just a thought ... I've seen some LED H8 fittings which run at 10w ...... it's just a possibility that might solve something - can't say if it would though.

#13 ·
Great idea mate to try with bulbs on 10w,i will try that and write here whats happend.Official dealer can code my frm module if I have all parts for adaptive lights.I check all and i have all wires on connectors what i need also have level sensors front and rear, but only Im not sure about lights switch in cabin, what must be for adaptive lights? And normal frm3 with ahl function I need for sure.I found some frm3 but have basis type on it.Can this modul support adaptive xenons when dealer make coding?

If your car was built with xenons you should already have level sensors (on the left side front and back suspension arms) and headlight washers.

I've not been in a car with adaptive xenons so I can't tell if the light switch is any different from the non-adaptive type, I would guess not, but it's only a guess.

The FRM3 "Basis" does not support xenons (not even the non-adaptive ones) as this was the version built with my car and we only found that out when we tried to code in the xenons, If your FRM2 is not up to it, then you will need an FRM3 "Max" (like mine).

#15 ·
Hi mate,
Yes my car is genuine with xenons and have all sensors and all elements for that.I think I only need new frm3 with AHL options to can code adaptive lights on my car.How looks sticker on footwell module who support frm3 adaptive xenons,to know what to search?
Thanks

#16 ·
Your FRM2 may code for adaptive xenons - I don't know.

Here is the data plate from my FRM3 "Max"

About my module,I looking on web and nothing can find about adaptive lights.Maybe hardware can tell me when I open module box?Is there some difference in eeproms,chips...?Can I damage my module if I ask official dealer to coding adaptive lights on my car?Or to try myself to coding with some software?
Thanks u mate for that sticker, anyway I will looking to find module as that if mine cant be coding for adaptive lights....
I found this difference on web about frm3 max and frm3 basis module.Maybe I need to open my module to look inside...

Not a lot of point in opening up an FRM, there's allways going to be differences in chips and layout depending on version and age.

There is no harm in trying to code in the adaptive option with your FRM2 - it might work, might not. If it doesn't and you still want to fit the facelift adaptive set, then just go and get an FRM3 "Max" - it will still need coding, though.

Ok mate, many things is now clear.Anyway, how will going procedure with inpa tool to coding this ahl?I know is very complicated for sure, but if u can help me how to thats be great.Maybe have similar topic on forum about that? Thanks

#20 ·
I can't help you out with any coding as I haven't done any, sorry.

Hi! I'm from Russia sorry for errors )
I made this procedure: pre-facelift non-adaptive ->> facelift adaptive on E87 130 2007
It took a few days on service station. It was a headache for workers ) Had to redo the wiring, re-PINining and and re-encode all units to facelift, and now on diagnostics my car is facelift )

1. Your FRM1 I think does not suitable for facelift adaptive headlights (have no hardware for adaptive HL). your number doesn't match the catalog but is close to Number for adaptive pre-facelift is 61 35 9 128 185.

But for facelift I bought used FRM2 from car with AHL Support: it also doesn't match the catalog but it close to with Option S524A (AHL)

I'm not saying that this is the only way.

Hi again,in my case i add new module frm2 ahl, made pin change and program it with ncs,but still cornering not working.I not yet do vin change in frm2,winkfp not accept my zusb. All other work, but now have 4 errors in frm2:

Tell me, please, how was the problem solved? Everything is exactly the same for me. Car E87 Pre LCI, xenon headlights installed from the factory. Now I have installed adaptive xenon headlights LCI, FRM3 Max Brose, connected all the wiring and encoded $524 (CAS, NFRM), than, with empty .MAN FRM and DSC. But adaptive light does not turn. Errors in Rheingold is the same: 009315, 009CBA, 009CBF, 009CCO, 009CC3, 00E59C
