Hello,

I wondered if you could help with a DTC issue, Its a E87 120d, DTC light has been illuminated since I brought it (5 months), doesn't seem to affect performance at all, pressing the DTC button makes no difference at all. INPA is showing fault code 5E20 which after googling leads me to believe its 1 of 2 brake pressure sensors? looks like they are mounted on the brake master cylinder but my master cylinder doesn't have any? Maybe im barking up the wrong tree, any help gratefully received :)

The sensors are inside the hydro unit so yeah, unfortunately it probably needs replacing. It is mechanical rather than electrical though, so fitting a used but working unit should be an option if you’re on a budget.

It’s a fairly easy DIY (link) but you will need to bleed the brakes using INPA afterwards as you’ll have air in the valve body which normal bleeding will never clear. The bleed program drinks up loads of fluid, usually at least a couple of litres even if you only need to run each corner once.

Thanks for the help, Yep your spot on! Didn't want to risk a second hand unit so ended up using a genuine Hydro repair kit and bleeding with INPA, worked a treat.

Just incase anyone else reads this - Current BMW stock of the Hydro repair kit retails at £299+vat if you can find one as most have run out of stock, As soon as the new stock arrives from Germany there is going to be a price increase to............£1,100+vat!!!!! Yes you read that right!!
