It's a bit of a pain to have to do all that just to get to the spark plugs.

When I did my swirl flaps I had to do that (Although I did disconnect the sensors, didn't cause any issues for me) and in addition to that I also had to remove the windscreen wiper arms, the plastic piece under the windscreen wiper arms and the rear engine cover to get access to the rear manifold bolts. Not sure if there was a better way of doing it but either way I was quite surprised when I realised so much had to come off.
