This morning car was iced up ,opend the door broke the ice seal and thought nothing of it, then half way to work a window warning light came on in the dash, tried the window and nothing, passenger one works but not the drivers, is the car shutting it down due to the cold, will it reset itself? Anyone else had this

Its a coupe with frameless windows, in work at the mo so cant do much, the window does not work at all let alone hold down the switch, its not even making a sound, its like the car has shut it down
E81 has frameless windows as well. Just because the guide says it's for an E81, doesn't mean it won't work on E82 and E88 which also has frameless windows. The procedures remain the same and work across all 3 models. There's no harm in trying, if it works then problem solved, if not then you've wasted a minute, but it's up to you.

I Had this last winter on my E81 (frameless window )..

I took it to in Indi who basically took the door card of and gave the window motor a gentle tap to get it started again.(50quid)

if you don't mind do it seems a simple job.

from now on in ice I defrost the whole window especially the bottom seal then gently push the window to break the ice seal before opening the door.
some people lube up the seal s so they don't stick or run a credit card around to break the ice.
bit of a crappy design flaw if you ask me, the car should know its cold and shouldn't drop the window when opening the door...

Bane of my life when I had an E82. But no better with F22!

This morning ( bad frost on the F22) out comes my Costa card to run between the lower seal and the glass
along the whole length starting at the door handle end. You have to get the card below the seal and
thus between glass and seal. Then run an un-gloved finger along the glass just above the window seal.
melts any remaining frost.

Works a treat after 5 years of coupe ownership.

Others will suggest warm water but this is a bit of a pain and the card trick is quicker.

Suggest loyalty card and not credit card. credit card is embossed and thus not flat so more likely to damage
seal.

New coupe and 3 door owners discover this issue every year. Don't think there is a warning on this forum under
common problems but may be wrong.

Had the same this morning although have to say I didn't have the same problem last year. I did have a bit of ice along the rubber seal. What do people suggest you lube them up with?

tried different lubes as suggested by other forum members but not ideal for me as seemed to leave streaks on the glass.

and since the method I use ( 3 posts back) have worked a treat for 5 years including this morning ( well iced up)
I decided the plastic card and my finger is the way to go. 30 seconds max.
