Only problem is the one I found has AUTO wipers, unlike my car. Few people on this thread have written that it will work without problems (and additionally there will be LED for intermittent wiping :) ). Can someone confirm this?
Yes, Auto wiper switch will work fine on non auto wiper car.

hello everybody

i know thats not forums for 3 (e90 2009) series but maybe someone help me...
when i coding cruise control by ncs first step add $540 for CAS succesfull.
next step when i "select the other module that holds the Vehicle Order, on a 1
series it is the FRM" unfortunately there is not...
i have to chose one of those:
2JBBF, 2MULF, 43DMO, ABG, CAS, CID, DSC, EKP, EPS, FZD, IHK, KOMBI, MASK, NFRM, PDC, RLS, TCUM, ZBE

im not sure but NFRM is close to

Hello, i am looking to do this retrofit at some point in the future and was wondering if it would be possible to retrofit cruise control with the braking function, of if you can only do the standard cruise control. Thanks.

[Removed first paragraph of incorrect info re Dynamic Cruise Control - see post below]

Active Cruise Control (i.e. adaptive) that uses radar to maintain speed/distance with the car in front was never an option on E8x. It was an option on LCI 6cyl E9xs (so 330/335s only) and people have retrofitted it on others, but from what I gathered the parts list was extensive and wiring harnesses needed to be made from scratch etc.

Thanks for the info. I presume that the different instrument cluster has the indicator ring around the speedometer to tell you the set speed? From my own research, i understand that this is not necessary, however you will lack the indicator ring around the speedometer. It might even just be a case of programming to get this indicator ring. It is good to know that the standard cruise control stalk is in fact different to the cruise with braking stalk. I will do some digging on realoem. Am I correct in thinking that there should be no additional wiring required for either version of cruise control? Thanks for your help.

Edit:
If anyone has a car with this feature, please could you send the last 7 digits of your VIN? Thanks.

I just tried to dig up the notes I made when I added cruise to my car and although I can't find half of it I do need to correct my thinking above - it was a year or so ago that I did the 'research' so my apologies

In short, I don't think you can add Dynamic Cruise Control (SA544) to an E8x car UNLESS your car is a 125i, 130i or 135i, and you fit both the correct slip ring AND an instrument cluster from an E9x 3 Series. But you might get away with not needing the cluster.

Dynamic cruise on 3ers was dependent on a few modules. Firstly, either the or, on lower spec cars, a specific version of the DSC module, , which emulated the LDM module's function. This DSC module was also fitted to 6cyl 1ers. Secondly, it depended on the Kombi module - fancy speak for the instrument cluster. So even if you have a car with the correct DSC module you still need to install the cluster from an E9x which will have the hardware/firmware to support dynamic cruise. Finally, the slip ring - there were .

Once you have all this hardware in place then, supposedly, adding $544 to your VO then coding the CAS, NFRM, KOMBI and DSC modules to defaults should enable dynamic cruise and give you the braking function. However, I'm pretty sure I've read someone just added the correct slip ring without the E9x cluster and dynamic cruise worked after coding. I had links to topics on here/other forums saved in a document that's gone walkies, but if I find it I'll dump the links here too.

I guess if you're set on the retrofit it would be best to try it without the E9x cluster first and possibly save the cost/effort of adding one (although the M3 clusters are pretty... Variable redline)!

PS: The ring isn't physically present on E8x clusters, it's an E9x specific feature. The two clusters are different hardware and even after coding a 1er will only show the display in the centre. If you look at the pics below the outer ring is entirely missing on the E82:

Thats a shame, guess ill just have to stick with standard cruise. i was looking to do this on a 118d. Still good information to have access to nonetheless, should I upgrade to a 125i or better down the line. Depending on what my wallet will permit, i may get a 3 series next. If you find the rest of the information, please do post it as its a great resource to have :)

can you do the coding first before the installation of parts to avoid any errors once installed ?
Nope, the errors are a deliberate 'failsafe' for the steering angle - replacing the slip ring with another that's in the exact same position is basically impossible, so whenever one is removed the car forces you to tell it which position is the new zero. It's better for the system to fail in a safe, predictable way than waiting until the next roundabout, deciding your steering angle is impossible so you must be skidding, applying DSC to control the 'skid' and snapping you into a bus stop.

Also, if you add the cruise option to your VO before you've actually installed it the car will just throw extra errors because the hardware is missing!

Stick your VIN into RealOEM.com, click "vehicle electrical system", then click "switch unit, steering column" (there may be two of these sections, one empty, the other with the info you need). You'll be presented with a list of part numbers and the options they relate to. Find the one that matches yours but also includes multi-function steering wheel, and that's the squib you need.

Same deal for the steering wheel buttons - it's under vehicle electrical system, search for "multifunction", click the link, then choose the buttons that match your cars options.

Stick the part numbers you get into eBay and make certain the seller is actually selling that exact part, or one RealOEM tells you is compatible!

Part number you need is 61319123042
This only applies if you are getting a steering wheel with the multifunction controls to add at the same time.

A quick search pops up this on Ebay matching this part number
You'll also need the steering cowl lower cover when fitting.
