Been on here the last few months trying to absorb as much info as possible before buying a 123D. The E81 suited my needs over the E82 due to the tailgate giving greater axis to the boot over the E82 hatch, the only option I wasn't willing to have was xenons.

And this is what I ended up with, a silver E81 123D with very few options apart from the xenons, cruise control and a full dealer service history, if I'd maybe waited a little longer I may of found a better spec car but I was impatient.

It came with 4 new Goodyear run flats all round, 225 on the rears and 205 front.
With a track day booked for 21/11/15 my first port of call was to up the grip levels all round, so I got at pair of 245 Goodyear F1 for the rear and the rear 225's run flats will moved to the front.

Hoping to get M3 LCA's and powerflex the tension arms before the track day.

looks a very nice example :cool2:
Cheers sus

Been checking out build threads on here and much like other car makes the best way to improve handling is to use bits off a higher spec model, in this case the E9* M3. Came across a very helpful thread which had all the part numbers, so set about ordering some M3 LCA and some powerflex bushes.

Also got the M3 headlight adjuster arm

Took all of 20 mins to remove both arms

Here you can see the difference in length between the stock arm and M3 arm.

Refitted with M3 headlight adjuster arm.

Next job remove the front arms.

And press in the powerflex bushes

Once back on the floor the tracking is way off (toe in) so driving too far isn't a good idea. Once the tracking was sorted I could it for a driver down a test route and it becomes apparent steering turn in feel is improved as well as turn in grip.

So for the moment that covers the front end mods till after my first track day in the car. Once I get a feel for how it handles on track I'll look into anti roll bars and a strut brace. I see the car already has a OE front strut bar to aid in cutting out strut flex, so does adding another one really make a difference?

Its the es model, silvery gold colour with coral red seats
Cool, sounds like a classy colour combo mate.

On the weekend I found time to get the 245 eagle F1's fitted and move the run flats 225's to the front. Put the 205's up for sale on ebay. It's been said loads of times and to feel what a difference first hand is nuts, the difference to the ride over pot holes, speed bumps and uneven road surface is noticeable.

205 on 7.5J

225 on 7.5J

225 on 8.5J

245 on 8.5J

The only thing left to do before snetterton so I can get a fair baseline/feel for the car is to replace the rear shocks due to the o/s/r one starting to leak.

So on Sat 21st I did a track day at Snetterton, this was my first time on track in my 123D. The day started with a very snowy drive, to the point I was starting to think that the day would be called off.

The snow turned into rain and lots of it! Well the 123D didn't let me down, to be fair it shocked me as did the eagle F1's, the speed I could carry into the corners compared to others was eye opening. Ended up doing over 110 miles on track.

On track it was hard to really tell due to the wet conditions, with the standard suspension and the M3 arms and power flex front radius arm bushes 'turn in' feel and grip does feel better once pushing on on A,B roads. I hope to get a dry track day at some point next year, Aiming to do the next one in mid Feb.

So are you running with run flats on the front and non-run flats on the rear? I thought that was a no-no...(?)
Yes that's right I have non-run flats on the rear and run flats on the front. Haven't come across any issues really, as you can see its also been on track with that configuration with no bad side effects. If anything the stiffer run flat side walls means the front side walls don't flex on 'turn in' aiding feel and grip. Also the rear non-run flat tyres have sorter side walls which adds grip due to the rear not being upset once loaded up in a corner by a bump or uneven surfaces. It does point to what I have felt from driving my 123D msport suspension, that the rear doesn't need to be any stiffer but the front does. Which again points to why many fit the M3 front ARB and say it handles better. But common sense would say it shouldn't as fitting a stiffer front ARB would only make it understeer more unless the front was too sort.

Intercooler fitment.

As the front bumper and bonnet needed a blow over I got my hands on a BMWP rear spoiler so it could get painted and fitted at the same time.

Once the bumper was removed I popped round and made a started on fitting the intercooler.

Removed the airbox and coolant fan.

Remove two T30's
And this clip and the fan can be lifted up and out.

Once the fan is removed both the inlet and outlet boost pipes can be seen and gain access to the pipe clips.
Clips will need to be reused.
Old V's new
Only took about 30 mins to remove the old and fit the new intercooler with the bumper off.

Haven't posted on here for a while, plus the weather hasn't been great. So this weekend I pulled my finger out and got round to fitting my suspension kit.
After looking up loads of info on here and other sites plus having a bit small bit of experience I opted to go down a different route. I feeling is the rear on my 123D was too hard to the point that if I hit a small bump it would upset the rear. As "THETYRANT' has pointed out the rear almost rides on its bump stops which explains the rear twitchiness I get mid corner if the road isn't totally smooth.
Front B6 Bilsteins (with 10mm taken off the bump stops)
Rear B4 Bilsteins (PBMW shorter bump stops)
Eibach springs

BMW shorter rear bump stops

Eibach rear springs Vs Msport L3 springs

Took the B6's apart to cut 10mm off the bump stops.
The ride is a lot better. The rear ride over bumps a lot nicer, it's only been a day but the rear also is less twitchy which is a win.
