I've been using Deezer, really impressed with it. I've been adding songs to a playlist on my phone and they sync with the car so when I get in all the tracks are there ready to listen to.
Thanks fella,

Also I know its in higher models but can you use the integrated 4g connection to make a hotspot for Internet connection? Or is internet only available through iDrive?

I've looked into that but it's not possible as far as I know, sorry.
Well if you can't sorted it I'm sure it can't be done!

Don't get mine till March but isn't Spotify included in this Online Service? I have premium Spotify account but might sign up for one of the free 1 year with Deezer. Shame they haven't intigrated Amazon Prime Music into it yet, they need to update it like Sonos does for new streaming services! :)

I use premium Spotify through pro nav and I think it's excellent and works really well. It is also fully integrated with I drive and all controls.

My wife has Spotify premium and I have a question when she connects via USB the Spotify app comes up on the iDrive is the connection she via her phones 4g or the cars 4g?

As we have the online entertainment package it's seems silly if as I assume it will use her mobile data when running Spotify we might as well just use Deezer!

Doesn't use car mobile connection. I just play all my music available offline, I.e. all saved albums and playlists.

+1

I think Spotify is the only one that streams and saves music in 320kbs. The rest are 256kbs at the best. I've also installed this...

Audioquest Jitter bug - now fitted
" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

... And Spotify is even better.

I've been streaming Spotify through my phone but thought I'd take the 1 month trial of Online Entertainment and went for Deezer rather than Napster.

The problem I've found is that whilst you can add playlists from the Deezer app or website to your account and they show up on the iDrive any albums you add don't appear in iDrive so you have to search for them individually to play them. Seems like a major omission to me and whilst I was originally thinking that £160 for a years subscription was not too bad given I could use it on other devices and not need to worry about my data allowance, this kind of makes the whole service pretty broken.

Deezer support seems pretty clueless, only being aware of the phone app.

Maybe the Napster integration is better but you only get one shot at the trial so maybe someone else has experience of it?

I've got Napster on my online entertainment - Deezer wasn't an option when I picked the car up last year.

It's actually pretty good - occasionally the connection dies for no apparent reason, and the track selection isn't quite as good as Spotify, but I think I'll probably buy another year's worth come May. As it links to a standard Napster account, the £160 a year also gives you the ability to use Napster on a home PC, phone or Sonos system without having to pay a second time.

Don't know about saving albums - never tried to do it, as I have an iPod in the car for music I want to own! The Napster system does cache anything you download onto the car's hard drive so you can listen to it again even if the network connection is unavailable.

So could you try and save/add to favourites an album and a playlist in Napster on your phone and see if you can then see them in Online Entertainment without searching?

Thanks, Simon

Decided to go for deezer. Activated it yesterday for the free year included with the car. It's really good even where I live which is terrible for mobile reception.
Also I really don't think the standard speakers are that bad. Not as full as standard set up on my insignia but no way as terrible as some people say.

Hi all,

So I'm about to take delivery (well, in March) of a new 340i Touring - my first BMW after years of VAG ownership (currently have a B8 S4 Avant).

Anyway, I too have specified the Online Entertainment option in conjunction with the Media Package Plus & Nav Pro. Note this is not the same as streaming it via a phone & connecting by Bluetooth or USB, but (as I understand it) via the car's own data connection & integrated Connected Drive app. But the account is the same one as I will use on my phone & devices at home, and they should integrate seamlessly like any other device.

I've decided on Deezer as the app, selection, quality & curation seems much better than Napster. I've found fairly minimal information & videos on what this interface looks like in the car. People that have done this (again, not via the phone's app or connection), do you get the same features as you do on the home & mobile apps like Flow, like & dislike buttons, suggested playlists & genres, or is it a more basic search & mirror of what you manually do at home? I can't see any sign of Flow in any of the screenshots or videos I've seen, just a search. Can it be browsed by voice control and/or the handwriting touchpad thing on the iDrive knob?

Also, once songs & albums are automatically downloaded to the car's hard drive, are they selectable from the same lists & selections as your own music (and therefore by voice control) or do you still have to browse via Deezer, but avoid data buffering? Is this only browsable separately or can you view all media together (downloaded, HDD, USB, iPod, whatever)?

Cheers

Rob
