Hi all,

When I installed ISTA-P and Winkfp recently I noticed they were recommending updates to the FZD, EKP and DME for my 03/2007 130i. It's i-level had been updated in 2008 so most units had no updates. I checked the recommended ZB numbers for the FZD and EKP and these were both post 2008, which makes sense so i updated them in Winkfp.

The curious module was the DME where the firmware (.0pa) is up to date ZB 7577968 however it is recommending a different set of map data (.0da). The ZB it is recommending is 7581328 and it currently has 7581332 loaded which seemed odd so I checked the files are they are both from the same date (16.05.2007) and hence were available in 2008 when the i-level was previously updated, so why the change now?

A comparison of the files shows some limited changes but without knowing what the sections of the file relate to it is difficult to know what is being altered. At this stage I am keeping the original map but it would be interesting to know a little more about the change in recommendation from BMW and rationale for it. Can anyone shed some light on it?

Cheers

Hi Wibbles, the ZB numbers in my post are from doing exactly as you say with winkfp and v53 daten, which for my car is new enough. I had intended to post a screenshot but couldn't for some reason. The odd thing is winkfp is recommending a lower ZB number?

The main reason I'm not keen on flashing it with the winkfp recommended number is that some versions of N52B30 engine are detuned from their potential power output, and hence I am wondering if the change is to do with emissions as opposed to any real 'improvement'.
