Has anyone else suffered with doors that clunk when going over imperfections in the road? My passenger side is particularly bad.

Also when cleaning it tonight, I've notice that both side of the bumper are peeling on the inside reveals. Looks like a bubble appeared on both.

Looks like it's time to call my local dealer and get it booked in.

Regarding overspray - I got some waterproof gloss white strong sticky tape from Wilko, cut it to shape and stuck it on the inside of the front bumper to cover the paint peel. It was a bit fiddly and in the end I used two lots of tape on both sides. That was 4 months ago and both sides are still fine. Great cosmetic repair as it was giving me OCD to have to look at this on a brand new car!

Regarding clunking doors - do you mean rubber seals squeaking when driving - mainly noticeable in hot weather? I think BMW are well known for this - annoys me from time to time. I read somewhere that a product called "Gummi Pflege" will sort the problem. Haven't tried it yet but intend to.

Regards 👍

I've tried he Gummi Pflege (my E46 needed load of it to cut down on squeaks), but it's more of a clunk / knocking noise than a squeak. It seem to be there all of the time; if put pressure on the drivers door, it stops so I think there might be some slightly suspect alignment of the doors.

My M140 is less than a month old but has a few rattles here and there when driving along! Very annoying for a brand new car. Doesn't sound like door squeaks. My 2012 125D seemed better built.
The frustrating thing is that my other half's 12 year old 116 doesn't rattle or clunk or make any untoward noises.

not built like they use to be! Either way, everything about the car is fantastic. Except that. I feel giving it to BMW to investigate could be a never ending back and forth journey to the dealership. I knew from the moment I got the car that it felt less well built! The doors take a bit more of a slam to shut. Maybe it'll loosen up over time.

Have you guys ever wondered whether the rattles are caused by the poor quality of the road surface in the UK?

Switzerland has super smooth roads, for example. I am yet to get in a car that has rattles, regardless of how old it is.

Finally took my car to Sytner because the door noise was really starting to do my head in.

A chap on PH had the same issue with his 340 and they fitted some form of tape which worked, do was expecting same. The chap in the service department was aware of the issue and asked if it was a four door car but I said it wasn't doing it so much today in the rain which he said was expected. I asked about the tape solution and he said that they don't do that anymore because there has been a technical bulletin from BMW and some updated door seals.

Hopefully they can replicate the noise and get approval for new seals. They should be sorting my slightly wonky exhaust too. They've sent a health check video which made me laugh because it was all about tyres and brakes. They better be fine after three months and 3,500 miles!

Joking aside the service guy was really good and said that he assumed that I didn't want the car washed by them, which I obviously didn't.

All sorted.

Turns out that tape is the solution for the 1 series. The service guy I dealt with was very apologetic, but it has solved the issue (thank god).
Mind if I ask which tape did you use ? having same issue with my 140i very annoying :(
I took it back to BMW for them to sort. There's a very very thin clear tape that runs around the door openings to stop it. They did the same for a chap with a 340.

The creaking did my head in. It seems to be a known issue because the chap at Sytner knew all about it.

I thought they'd changed the seals to fix this creaking in the M140. I had it in my M135i it was an absolute nightmare. Once you tuned in to it it was all you heard. Went 3 door this time just in case, it was that irritating!
Apparently not, it's still classed as a 1 series.

Even 3 series were getting the tape until recently. Everything above a 1 series now gets new seals. If this fails, that will e the next step.

However, it's worked and it wasn't creaking yesterday. It was really starting to grate.

The drivers side creaked a little bit tonight when I went to collect the boy from school. It is however better than it was.

I'll drop the guys tab Sytner a line to see if they will replace the seals.
