Charge pipe oil residue

1524 Views 9 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Beasted
Done a oil and filter change today and noticed that, on the passenger side connection, Straight off the intercooler on the first hose connection, there was oil leaking from around the join.

It's not dripping but it is wet with oil.

Not sure if this is a common problem but doesn't look nice at all. Would hope to get it fixed and remove the oil getting to these areas.

Any ideas

Thanks all

It's quite common on turbo charged cars and we have 2 turbos, I wouldn't be too worried as long as your not using oil

No not using noticeable oil, topped it up once since I bought it in early septmever and obviously done the oil service today. Just see it and thought crap. Didn't look nice either seeing a oily pipe. Lol.

Oh and when you fill up with oil and check ok the computer the level, should it be fully maxed? Or on the second line?
The marks are just like they would be on a dipstick with an upper and lower mark. So when full it should be up to but not past the 2nd mark and say "OK" underneath. If it says ">MAX" underneath the oil level is too high and this can damage the engine (alledgedly)

Awesome thanks mate. Luckily mines on second line and says ok.
Read up on the N54's PCV setup, this will explain the oil in your intake system.

The fact oil residue is leaking from a 'sealed' pipe shows one of your couplers isn't tight enough and is leaking.. Give it a quick check over.

Yea I've seen these and may upgrade this if it'll help.
Do you think it's just a case of checking all the couplers making sure each one is tight? Any idea which ones to check? Thanks sean

That's the solution I'll going for when I commit to it. Make sure you buy a carbide tap. Would hate to snap one in the head. Make sure you have plenty time though, long list of things to remover taking the valve cover off.

well the coupler and join closest to the oil spray.. If it were me I'd take the full silicone tube out, clean the pipe and the end tank & charge pipe From oil and join again. I know I use an impact gun for my connections. I don't go nuts mind.
Sorry, I mean this is the rb kit I'll be doing..

Meaning there'll be no more blow by in the intake system.
