Evening,

There maybe a thread somewhere covering this however I've search to no avail, I may also be being very dumb(hopefully the case) so I've prepared myself to be shot down in flames.

Do we really have to use the head unit or idrive to change track if we're listening to music from our iPhone via Bluetooth?

I can flick through the tracks on my playlist using the right hand scroll on the steering wheel, the tracks then appear in the centre of the instrument cluster however when I 'click' the scrolling button in to change tracks nothing happens. I was at first concerned that the button may have been faulty however it lets me change radio stations without a problem.

Hopefully I'm doing something wrong and someone can point me in the right direction. Car is a M140i without pro-nav if it makes a difference.

Cheers
Aaron

Are you using spotify? if so this is normal - you can only skip to the next track via the wheel. I use apple music and you can scroll through and select any track in that playlist via the wheel.

I like spotify but for something that is supposed to integrate into the car via BMW apps its pretty poor, fiddly to get started and awkward to use. Apple music works flawlessly in my experience.

That's pretty much because you're using an iPhone, and no matter how good Spotify gets, it will never be as integrated to iOS as Apple Music will be. And if Spotify isn't as integrated with iOS as Apple Music, that will also flow on to the BMW app...
Yes I get that, I was just pointing out how ironic it is that something that isn't designed to run through the car works much better than something that is.

I'm just using Apple Music/iTunes from my iPhone connected via Bluetooth not cable. It just seems strange that it lets me scroll through track using the steering wheel control but it's does let me click to select??

Have you got enhanced Bluetooth? That could be the issue.

I've just had a play about and I definitely can't select the tracks with the Steering wheel control when listening to apple music via Bluetooth.

I plugged my phone into the car with a USB cable and it all works fine, I can scroll and change tracks without an issue and I also get album artwork on the screen which wasn't there before.

My question is, does it also work like that with enhanced Bluetooth? If not I may look at getting a USB pen drive for my music.

Thanks
Aaron

Pretty sure it works ok via EBT, why don't you just plug your phone into USB, better quality, fully functional plus it charges your phone?
