Changing my 320D MSPORT plus Edition ....... Wife Logic.

So, having spent a while on Tyre deliberation the wife says how long have you had this one? About 2 years I say, oh so would it not be better to just maybe change the car then? :eek2:

Normally its man logic and man maths in these situations but hey ho must have married her for a reason :lol2:

Anyway, as I wasn't planning on changing yet, I am a bit stumped as to what I would change for/to.

Current car is as follows -

63 plate black 320d msport with plus edition package.
M performance brakes, Rear spoiler lip, rilles, side foils.
Harmon Kardon
Nav
Xenons
Black leather#
etc etc etc fairly loaded as a car
Manual
done 35k
Pads allround not long done, service not due for another 11k and is in good nick with no kerbing etc

I do a fair amount of mway miles and its the bigger of the two cars in our house. Happy with the car and suits my needs.

If I was to change, and sensible head here, id ideally want to drive in and drive out without a deposit and keep my monthlies the same preferably through lombard which is far cheaper than main dealer and no mileage limitations. But I have to buy main dealer and cant be older than 2 years or 3 to start with, and they expect an invoiced deposit of x% so would need a dealer who can help sort that.

I loved the 330d x drive auto i had for a few months as a courtesy car, but i am concious of the insurance increase, road tax (not too critical i guess) and fuel increase as the 320d is actually very good.

I suppose i should look at a 4 series or 3 series gran coupe (is that right?) Maybe in auto and with x drive, not sure on engine size.

The petrol head in me wants fun and fast but reality says with the miles i do its prob not gonna happen. So are there any ridiculous deals at the moment i should know about?

Any suggestions BMW or other?

Thanks for any input!

I can't see how you could trade a 320d in for a 330d xdrive and expect to keep the same monthlies and no deposit.

If you've bought the 320d on finance, if you're only 2 years into a 3/4 year deal, you're going to have a fair amount of negative equity.

I wouldn't want to move sideways and buy a similar used car for the sake of changing.

think you misunderstand or maybe i wasn't clear, i was just pointing out i liked the 330d, but i am conscious of the increases in costs hence its prob not going to happen thus i need suggestions or other cars etc.

I am also on lombard and with the deposit i had in the car, and cost to settle, I dont have any neg equity at the min (no doubt main stealers will attempt to change that :lol2: ) but will do in another 12 months if the car starts to continue to reduce in value so am quite fortunate in that aspect.
Depreciation slows off as the car gets older. The longer you keep it, the less likely you are to have negative equity. If you have no negative equity now, you should be in a better position in 12 months.

If you're trading in a high spec 320d and it won't have any negative equity, you must have put down a large deposit and paying a healthy monthly payment especially bought at main dealer prices?

If you're not willing to put a big deposit down on the replacement, you're either going to be in negative equity for a long time, or trading down to keep payments equal. Remember the trade in value for your car is much less than market value.

If your current car suits your needs and you don't want to pay the extra for a higher up model, stick with the 320d. Changing car is an expensive process and only worth doing if you're going to get something out of the deal.

Your 320d sounds a nice car and if it needs for nothing more than tyres, I'd just buy them and enjoy the car until something takes your fancy. Don't just change for the sake of changing.

well went over to williams in rochdale and had a look round and left (m3 aside) feeling very uninspired. Slightly due to no one bothering to actually see if i wanted to discuss any cars but just didn't have that excitement. Probably need to nail down what i am wanting first but just looking at the cars whilst thinking they are nice, I wasn't excited at all.

But driving out, i literally did a U-Turn in to the Honda Garage after seeing the new Type R parked outside in Grey!

Now thats a head turner!

Got a white one in GT spec inside as well and they do have some presence! Test drive will be booked for later this week hopefully.

Im still unsure if it looks great or a little like it drove through halfords but hey ho it grabbed my attention. Plus 4 doors so kindof practical ha ha
New Type R a head turner? :eek2: IMO it turns heads in a bad way lol...but you can't deny the stats it throws out.

Wow, change of direction!

Although I don't think the Type R fits with your desire to keep your running costs at their current level! You'll be lucky to get 30mpg out of it and the road tax will be a couple of hundred a year. Great car though by all accounts

I do remember reading about Honda offering a PCP for £300 a month when it came out, but I doubt that's for your annual mileage and I don't know what deposit was required.

I do like the Type R but it's styling is a bit in your face and for me an M135i offers a much better all round prospect (and lower running costs!)
Prior to changing to our previous 118d E82 we had probably one of the last Type R GT models and although I loved the car especially when the v-tech howled so did the mpg dramatically change, we were lucky if we managed to continually get 29 although on one occasion we did see 32 as soon as we changed to the 118d there was no turning back.

Obviously with the new version at 370bhp I think you'd probably need a petrol tanker behind you because these cars are definitely not for simply cruising and there's no doubt in my mind if we'd bought one I'd be ragging it all the time!!

I had no intention of looking at it but caught my eye and went for a nosey. Just felt more exciting than the BMW's.

Had a Type R years ago and it was great fun, bomb proof aswell.

Well since you were considering a Type R, don't think there's much of a difference
