Can I code these in or out on my e87?

Hi there,

I want to code the following functions but aren't sure if it's possible and if so, where to look. I have a Carly adaptor and the app and I can set up NCSExpert if required (I already have INPA running).

1. Steptronic box. In auto mode I want the current gear to be displayed next to the D on the dash (e.g. D1, D2, etc). I've seen it in videos but can't find how/where to do it.

2. Brake pedal to start. I hate having to press the brake pedal to start the car, it's such an idiot feature it's insulting (you can only start the car in park or neutral anyway). Carly has the option to disable this function but it doesn't work properly... Carly does something because I can hear the starter relay click when brake pedal is coded out (it doesn't even get power when brake pedal is required) but the starter motor doesn't fire. It's as if one interlock is disabled but we run into a second. Any hints? BTW - this is a perfect example of why the Carly annual subscription is such a rip-off, the software isn't anywhere near as polished or comprehensive (or comprehensible) as it should be for the premium price - avoid it until they drop the price by 90% (in fact it should be free with their over-priced adaptor).

3. Auto lights. When i set my lights to 'auto' the main beam (not high beam) and angel eyes all light up, regardless of the amount of daylight. If I set the lights to '0' the daylight running lights operate as expected (angel eyes only). Can I code it so that when in 'auto' mode and it's daylight only the daylight running lights light up (i.e. not the main beam lights as well)?

I'm happy to explore other threads if you have some pointers.

Cheers.

According to , the gear display won't always work;
"some gearbox types (especially automatic) do not provide the data for the Gear Shift Indicator to the KOMBI, the Gear Shift Indicator might be inactive or permanently show no current gear, even after enabling this function"
A quick google suggests disabling the brake pedal on start is a setting in the CAS:

Code:
CAS:
========================
ANLASSSPERRE_BLSRE_BLS
nicht_aktiv
Re the auto lights, you can apparently enable the sensitivity menu in the OBC with the following:

Code:
KOMBI:
========================
MMI_ENA_PIA
aktiv
MMI_ENA_RPA_RDC
aktiv
LICHT_AUT_WERT_1
aktiv
LICHT_AUT_WERT_2
aktiv
LICHT_AUT_WERT_3
aktiv
No idea if Carly will let you mess with the MAN files to make those changes? If not you'll need to use NCSExpert. Bimmercode has an advanced mode that lets you do it but that would be another £30 and imho if you're making untested changes like this you're much better off with NCSExpert anyway.

Thank you for the reply @Nyxeris.

The quote you provided unfortunately relates to the up and down shift indicators on the dash display, not the actual gear selection. I've search fruitlessly and all I can find is YT videos showing it's possible, just not how to do it! 😧

I'll have a look at the brake pedal references you provide, I think they're the same ones that the Carly app codes but it doesn't work (on my car at least).

Interesting about the sensitivity for the auto-lights... perhaps mine simply isn't sensitive enough (or too sensitive). For anyone reading, what lamps light up during daylight when your lights are set to auto?

Does the current gear display appear when you stick the car in manual mode? If so there's probably way to make it appear in other modes, but finding it would involve digging through the Kombi settings for an auto car which I don't have :(

Are your lights OEM xenons (saw the reference to angel eyes)? If they're aftermarket and the car was originally halogen someone might have switched on the DRL option in the stalk menu - on halogen cars enabling that option is akin to turning the light switch to dipped, permanently...

Yep, in manual I get M1 - M6... in normal auto just 'D' and in sport auto just 'DS'.

And yes, OEM (factory fitted) Xenons... is the "stalk menu" only on halogen cars?

If you can't find a guide and don't mind using NCSExpert to pull the .MAN files (or if another good samaritan with an auto car could do it for you) you could probably find the settings. It would take a bit of trial and error though!

Stalk menu = left stalk, use the scroll thing until you see the key with the tick, press the button on the tip. Should be on all cars although if you've got iDrive that takes over some of the functionality. I just mentioned it because if you had aftermarket angel eyes (DEPOs etc.) on a halogen car someone might have enabled the default halogen "DRL" meaning your lights stay on 24/7 - not an issue with xenons as the behaviour is different.

Okay, thank you, i really do appreciate your suggestions.

I'll focus on getting NCSExpert set up so I can pull the .man and have a look around.
