Build time

Hi all!

Just ordered myself a new m135i and I can't wait! Many firsts for me; first BMW, first auto, first RW drive, first time ordering a new car.

I've currently got an 11 plate Renault Megane RS 250 which I've had for coming up 2 years now and decided since I can get a new car through work I thought it would be a good idea. We shall see how much difference an extra ~75 brake makes

So I've ordered it through Alphabet, and they then have ordered it through a dealer. I went and sat down with my local dealer to have a chat about the options as the Alphabet website isn't the best.

The dealer told me that Alphabet will sit on the order for around 2 weeks before they do anything (true enough) and then it would likely be sent to them for ordering as they usually deal with Alphabet.

As it turns out, even though I'm in Milton Keynes they ordered it through BMW Park Lane. I guess they might be the cheapest or whatever.

Anyway, my local dealer told me that the build time to expect was around 6-8 weeks, however the order form from Park Lane is saying to expect delivery around the end of May! :eek2: Was the my local dealer being far too optimistic or are Park Lane massively overstating the build time?

Thanks all!

My M135i took about 4 weeks to arrive, I was probably just lucky to get a build slot that fast, my M235i is taking a bit longer, I ordered it 21st October and picking it up next week, pretty sure I can blame the M2 for this, but 6-8 sounds about right
When I ordered my M135i the dealer said allow 12 weeks, but it ended up being 1 day off of 16 weeks from a direct dealer order. When I questioned this with the dealer and eventually BMW they did say it can be a bit of luck when it comes to demand, manufacturing and scheduling of paint colours.
I wouldn't expect it too quickly. I ordered 27th of sept 2015 and collected 9th of Jan 2016.
As far as I understand it BMW UK suggest something like 12 weeks, but sometimes cars come as soon as 8 weeks. All depends on the schedules for build in the factories, I think it also depends if there are available slots on a production run.

I suspect that Park Lane are giving you the official line, rather than say 8 weeks and then the car not turn up in that time.

I ordered late October, in December BMW told the dealer there was a delay and the car wouldn't come until April (!). The dealer pushed for more information and after a few days was informed that the car would arrive as per the original expectation (1st week of February) because they had added an extra production run at the factory.

Park Lane are owned by BMW, all the corporate sales are done through there, so thats probably why Alphabet are ordering from them.
I ordered mine in May and car arrived in September. Congrats on the car, I also came from an RS250 Cup, nice move. I liked the megane even if it had a really harsh but balanced ride but it's interior was awful :)
We ordered a pre-built car on the weekend. We were told it would probably be June for a factory order. The dealer showed us his computer screen where it was showing no delivery date available for a factory order.
Thanks for all the replies folks, very much appreciated. With the conflicting info I was getting from BMW was somewhat difficult to make plans (selling the Megane etc.)

That was what I was feeling as well, looking through the email chain again the May date was given before I'd finally confirmed the specification so that would make sense.

Tell me about it, I've not got the cup model - I tested both as the dealer had going at the time and the non-cup just had a lot more going for it (all the mod-cons so to speak) considering it was a daily driver. I do adore the car, but yeah, the interior is terrible; going to be a major step up to a 1 series that's for sure.
I ordered on the 19th of Jan and my car left the factory today! Status #9000 which I believe means is now in transit on its way to the UK.

Wow congrats that's very quick. I actually ordered mine 2 days later but Alphabet didn't process it for another two. Oh well.
its still early days I guess as it could get held in the docks for a little while but i am surprised how quick it got built -so quick I didn't have time to amend anything! (Ah well)

Hopefully yours won't be too far behind either then.
9000 is left the factory, from:
1100 Scheduled
1200 Scheduled for Production
5055 Confirmed by Prod. Control
5400 Assembly Start
8200 Released to Carrier
9000 Departed Plant
9605 Pre-EU Port of Exit
9610 Port of Exit
9620 At Sea
9630 Port of Entry
9800 Arrived at Dealership

I ordered my M135i a week ago, and was advised by Wellsway BMW Bath that the wait could be up to 16 weeks.....

Hello by the way :)
I ordered mid January and have been told in no uncertain terms to not ask my dealer for updates as he'll provide me with them :0

Rag that!!

Get your order number and do it yourself via the BMW genius.

I pester them at least every other day
Sure he refused to give it. The *******

:)

I'm okay I got it cheap and am not letting my car go until start of March anyway. So mid march pickup suits me.

Want it now though....
Just spoke with Park Lane, my car is scheduled for build on WC 11th April and he estimated delivery of end of April which is a month sooner than they initially said which is great news. Not as early as the local dealer but I'm happy with that.
I ordered my 235I on October 31st and was told I would get a December build slot and get the car by the end of December,i am still waiting and have since been told my build will be week commencing 9th march!! and should get my car by the end of march!!.
It seems to me that bmw will tell you anything to get your order, then continually fob you off.
Thanks wellsway bmw ..RUBBISH customer service
^^ Therein lies the value of a good dealer who doesn't bull****, TRL @ Coopers & Mo @ Park Lane provide great service.

What what its worth, that is a bit late, I ordered the same week as you, car was built week 5 and I picked it up last week.
Guess I should have done my dealer research prior to ordering !, we learn by our mistakes!! :x
