Hi

I have a bmw 1 series 118d m sport 2008 - has done around 112k and this morning all of a sudden the brake pedal is very stiff and hard. It stops the car but feels very stiff. its only a 10 min drive into work but will check again in the evening.

Any ideas as to what the issue is and should i drive it home today ?

Had a similar problem in a e46 3 series

The problem was the brake servo.. Replaced for a second hand one problem solved..

You should probably be cautious when driving it till you fixed it..

Yup, vacuum issue. Could be vac-gen, pipe work or the servo itself.

i took the car out for a drive on lunch and the issue has now gone away. the brake pedal is not stiff and went back to normal.
Will keep an eye on the issue and take it into the garage if it happens again

Hoping its a one off issue with the vacum

Any ideas on prices how much a repair would cost if it is the vacum or unit etc

took it to my garage this morning who had a look and said its nothing to worry about it as it was driving fine. They told me to bring it in if starts again.

Was this the morning it was quite cold and there was a frost?

We had similar with my dad's 535 the other morning.

Choose another garage, your brakes lost assistance and they're saying it's nothing to worry about? Could happen again without any warning...
