Hi folks,

Second issue I've ever brought to the BMWBaby forums so hopefully I can get the help that I need.

I have a 59 plate 116d.

Jumped into the car yesterday and put the fob in and received the audible ping followed by the below warning light (worth noting this is an image I found on google images and not an image of my vehicle so the info under the warning is irrelevant. I just used google to be clear on what warning message I am getting)

None of the top display has anything lit up so the manual shows this could be caused by:

- Control of the brake lights failed
- Fuel supply faulty, or
- Electrical system of towing hitch failed

The problem I have is I can't put it down to either of these.

- The brake lights seem to be fine. I tested them straight after the warning appeared.
- Not sure how I would test this, but I don't seem to have any fuel delivery issues
- I don't have a towing hitch

What I did yesterday, and also this morning when it happened, was drove a few miles, stopped the car, engine off, key out, door open, door closed, locked car, then started as if I was fresh going into the car and both yesterday or today the warning didn't come back...

It has been rather cold where we are, minus 1 celcius overnight and around +1/2 degrees when heading out in the morning... Could it be caused by the cold weather and really there is no fault?

Any advice would be appreciated?

What are the service lengths on your dash if you scroll through the service items?

Hello! From what I recall, this just means that the car needs servicing of some description and not necessarily the faults you've identified?

How many miles has your vehicle done and when was the last service? It could be a timed service that is due for the car. After 6 years, hmmmm...possibly brake fluid (2nd change)?

Just a guess as its been a few years since my E87. Sorry I'm of no more help!

I would need to scroll through the service intervals after work but I don't believe any are due imminently to be receiving the warning

Also - is it was the service would it not come up under the service info section flashing up as opposed to on inserting the key?

The book does have this icon in as a possible warning that can flag up.

Check the service items, something is due soon.

It'll go to a red car on the ramp when it's over due.

Hi Tweeky,

Apologies if I'm missing something obvious in the thread you've linked to but from the things I've looked at the warming I'm getting (which has mileage or time tick down) doesn't appear to be service related?

Hi,

No services are due. The next thing is MOT in April 16.
Any mileage related things?

Like it says underbody check might be related to the corrosion warranty.

Update this morning

Car starting without the audible noise or the warning light so it can't be service related.

So I must have either an intermittent fault or it has just been the weather that has caused havoc on the system?

I've had this recently and was due to a poor battery. Have you noticed other things playing up like rear de-mister not working, welcome lights not coming on. Could just be that. Is it on the original battery do you know?

Ironic you mention the battery Hendy as that's a whole other issue I've dealt with already with this car.

But I'm confident it isn't the battery.

It might be worth plugging in an obd reader, and resetting the fault codes. Agree, a dying battery can cause some weird problems that are hard to trace.
