So I got a quote of £2300 to replace a timing chain on my 118d. Goodwill request got rejected, but then I noticed on the Sytner website that they price match like for like quotes.

So I was wondering if anyone has had any luck with price matching before? because if I can get them to match a quote from someone like Peter van der veer who charges £1200 for a new chain, it could work out a lot cheaper for me

Why don't you get the work done by a good independent garage? Over £2000 is ridiculous and £1200 is still VERY expensive!

...unless it has already snapped.

Peter van der veer is well known on these forums and is arguably the best independent for timing chain replacements due to the sheer amount he's done.

I have rang a few places and suprisingly everyone has quoted over £1000

I apologise - I did not realise that the motor has to be removed - so the labour charge is heavy...

I hope that the chain has not snapped - I assume not or the garages would not have been able to quote.

In any case - bad luck, I wish you well.

No probs- yes fortunately it hasn't snapped as of yet.
