Hello. I picked up my 135 on Monday and the dealer offered me the following for the various protection insurances.

Alloys £300 (150 saving)
Tyres £300 (50 saving)
Smart £450 (100 saving)

First new car and first BMW so not really sure how much BMW charge to fix alloy and bodywork damage. Do the above seem like good value or would I be better either getting 3rd party insurance or paying for individual repairs? Hard question to answer as no-one knows what damage will need repairing in the next 3 years but trying to get a general idea.

Thanks

Alloys are ~£75 per wheel to get repaired
Scratches are ~£25 per panel
Tyres...depends on your luck and mileage.

Normally getting any of that from the dealer is bad VFM.

You can shop around online for those if you want any of them, and will probably get it cheaper.

I don't have any of those, and I don't think I would if you asked me again now.

Thanks for the responses.

Would the quality of a repair on an alloy through online insurance (ALA etc) be the same as would be done by a BMW dealer, or does the dealer have special tools/skills etc that justify the higher premium (300 for BMW / 185 for ALA)?

You'd be surprised how many dealers sub contract the wheel refurb out. However my local (main) dealer has a large body repair bolted on to it so my near side front which they refurbed after a run in with a pot hole was spot on and as good as new. Cost £60 too :)

All dealer after sales products are either snake oil or vastly overpriced. It is basically pure profit for them. It is never a good idea to casually say 'oh go on then' on the basis that it is only another few quid on your payment because if you did 5 minutes of research you would probably save several hundred pounds. Don't do it people!

Example; Sytner BMW quoted GAP insurance for a cash purchased 125d, £700, ALA cover to similar level, £150. When I asked them to justify it they looked sheepish and we both agreed to change the subject!

My dealer sold the alloy wheel protect to me for 149. Max 6 repairs per year and 3 year term. I thought it was worth it at that price.
