I'd be amazed if they don't ramp production after deliveries start.

Maintaining the hype now makes sense as they don't want to increase allocation and irritate the people who've got in early. Come July I bet the delivery times start to creep down by 1-2 months and a few more cars become available.

I say all this with a projected delivery date during the week of the 9-13th of May so I'd be just fine if production levels were kept low!

"Amazed"? The reason for the low production numbers is capacity in Leipzig and the fact that they have to take each M2 off the production line and manually fit certain parts. I wouldn't be so sure they can just "ramp up" production like that. I doubt production methods are going to suddenly change. There doesn't have to be ulterior motives for decisions BMW makes.

Leipzig doesn't only build M2's. A certain allocation of 2-series will go down the line and a certain allocation of those will get pulled off the line to create the M2. I'm quite sure they can find a way to bolt the M4 parts to higher volumes of partially completed 2-series if they wish. This is not a hand built Aston Martin, but, largely, a parts-bin car. Again, I can't wait for mine and I'm not trying to disparage what BMW have (hopefully) achieved with the M2, but it ain't a supercar.

The 1M production was far higher than originally planned and BMW are hardly the only company to ever do this. Witness Porsche with the Cayman GT4 and the Renault Clio Williams 'limited edition' is folklore.

Unless you're a BMW exec your guess is as good as mine. However, the history of genuine limited editions is rarely on the side of the manufacturers staying true to the originally planned numbers. The M2 is not even a limited edition, just a production throttled variant which makes it even less likely they'll stick to the current numbers. A cynic might say they learned from the 1M and decided to get the hype going early without creating bad blood in the early adopters by promising a genuine limited edition.

I guess we'll see what happens in about 6-months...

It won't be hard to ramp up the UPH at the factory. The RR sport SVR for example is made on the production line as normal, then a batch of SVR's will be sent to SVO for the rest of the body kit and anything else. After 2 years bmw will have better ways to increase the units they build at that factory. Would love to order an M2, but I'm told it's pretty much sold out.

Spoke to my local dealer in Sunningdale. Looks like there are 8 in the queue and delivery would be sometime in 2019 if I wanted one. That is just ridiculous.

Surely most people would just move on and pick another car be it an m3/4 or a completely different brand with those kind of wait times?

After driving the car today I put my deposit down. Was too good a machine not to even with the long wait which I hope will be resolved by BMW chasing a sales hit.

So you're going to wait potentially 3 years for your new car?! :eek2:.
They are saying end 2017 now.

I might just swap my C63 in for an M3 in September if the deals make sense. Or just keep the C63 longer. Hopefully by the end of this year I will have a better fix on when the M2 is likely to appear. No matter what the M2 is worth waiting for with distractions along the way.

2019 delivery?!?!? What a load of **** these dealers talk, honestly. Who in their right mind would wait 3 years for a car, that when delivered, will be pretty much old tech/news.
If you can't get an M2 within 6 months by the end of this year, I'll be amazed!!

Dealer BS and inter web speculation is a marvellous thing, if they cannot confirm a date forming by end of the summer I just scratch the Porsche itch instead
