Hello All

I have a 2015 BMW 218d M Sport Gran Tourer and have some questions about the connecteddrive.

I am enjoying the car itself but feel the media system /connecteddrive is very poor and not up to the bmw quality standards I have come to expect.

Because of this, the overall experience of driving a bmw has reduced especially as the media system is the 1 item I use the most.

The manuals do a poor job of explaining connecteddrive and I know more than the dealer geniuses from the little information I have found online.

I am hoping the forum community can help with my questions and prove my opinions of connected drive wrong.

The issues I am having with connected drive are as follows:

1) I do not have a widget option to display weather on the RHS in split screen mode. Maybe I am using an different version of the software but have been unable to find this info out. (Being a new car though, I would expect it to have the latest software)
2) When conducting a Google local search, the google local search page does not appear, I have to use the built in search option
3) I cannot find the panoramio or streetview options to see photos of my destination
4) When connecting an iphone via Bluetooth the main display shows all my tracks which I can select. When I try to select/change track using the roller switch in the steering I get a number of different issues:
- I do not see a full list of tracks on the HUD. I only can select 20 out of the 500+ shown on the main screen
- When trying to select the 20 tracks from the roller switch, not all of them play by pressing down the roller switch
- Sometimes I will see no tracks at all and get a no data available message despite the main screen showing & playing these tracks
- The tracks shown on the HUD are not listed or selectable from the main screen
- The track shown playing on the main screen and the track shown playing on the HUD are different.

I have had the car for a week and it has already been to my dealer to investigate. Unfortunately they do not appear knowledgeable on the connecteddrive and say everything appears to be ok.

Is my system faulty or do I need a system update?? The car has done 5K miles and owned by their salesman prior to me buying. Also worth noting the reversing camera was faulty at the time of buying although BMW have replaced this free of charge but I am unsure if this is linked to the above?

Ideally I would like to keep the car but have the above issues resolved but would return it if it came to it (am I within my rights to do this?)

If anyone can help with any of the above I would really appreciate it. I want get things resolved now while the car is still relatively new.

I have all the available connected services including the internet (full car spec below).

Hi, did you mean to post in the F20 section?

You have to setup a BMW Connected Drive account in the options.

You should be able to do this via the iDrive or if not, create an account here

As the system is part of the car, you will also be covered by there service under warranty.. so you can also call them to ask the various questions you posted..

IMO none of the things you mentioned are grounds for returning a car.

Some of them (like the bluetooth roller thing) are just 'how it works' some might be bugs (like the weather option) or could be because you dont have the 'Internet' option on your car (which is pretty useless anyway)

Thanks for your response. I should have specified I am using a connecteddrive account but am still experiencing these issues.

I wasn't sure where to post my questions. Sorry if this is in the wrong place.

Thanks for your response. I have the internet option activated in my car.

I do disagree about grounds to return the car as I believe it is not working as specified. It is the same as buying a top of the range smart TV where the smart functions do not work.
If I want to buy a tv for just for the picture I will buy a normal TV.
I wish to use the connecteddrive otherwise I would same my money by buying a BMW without this option.

My preferred option is to obtain a resolution to my issues so I can enjoy the car fully but I need to establish if a fault is present or not.

I wish to establish this in a reasonable time in case I need to exercise my consumer rights under the sale of goods act to return the car. I do not want this as I really like the car but do not want this option closed off to me because I was too slow in acting.

I hope the above makes sense.

If anyone has the same car and can tell me how their system works I would appreciate it.

Thanks for your response. I have tried the manual, looked online and talked to BMW geniuses without success.

It was for this reason I created this thread in the hope I could reach out to real BMW users to compare their experience of the system, settings and options against mine.

The connecteddrive system has been out a few years yet the information available is really thin on the ground.

I am not impressed with it and if my experience is typical I am surprised other BMW owners have been so accepting of this given the cost to have it fitted.

That being said, it could be an issue with my car and my understanding of the system which is what I hope to establish through this forum.

Hi there

Having gone through your original post although my Active Tourer doesn't have HUD nor Pro Navigation Plus Radio I've also registered on Connected Drive having decided I wanted the possible available options, needless to say I then downloaded the Apps to my S5 Mobile. When attempting to use the Remote Service on the phone I thought something isn't right and only after visiting the website did I realise I hadn't taken up that option as I felt it wasn't really vital so to speak. Similarly on checking the software on the system through the iDrive, I also discovered ours has the 2014 information bearing in mind the car hasn't been back to the Dealership for any issues as yet so I wasn't totally surprised.

In your specific instance I'm inclined to suggest you check the software version on the iDrive first and foremost as I believe the latest 2015 version came after the original registration of your car and looking at similar issues through the forum many people have had to show they're aware of this change and also encountered anything up to three days whilst the Dealer installs the new information.

It's also possible new software may resolve issues relating between the iPhone, Radio and HUD although I'm certain Wibbles may well be in a better position to clarify exactly what I'm trying to put across to you.

When looking online people have posted screenshot of the weather widget in late 2014/early 2015 so I would think my software is newer (if not the latest version). BMW could have removed it in the software version I have which is what I'd like to establish.

Once I establish this I can decide if I can get the weather option coded on or another version of the software installed instead.

I also have worked out some of the reasons behind the HUD and main screen showing different songs when playing music. I'll post later to explain my findings.

I certainly have read it, 3 times in fact. I said that because sometimes it's the easiest way. I am not familiar with the active tourer but the Nav systems are pretty standard across all the BMW range except the new G chassis 7 series.

OP - have you gone into the split screen content options?
I'm wandering if the best approach with this issue apart from on-going details to be confirmed if a call direct to the Connected Drive Centre may be of some use? SWMBO collected ours on 30th November 2014, for just over a one year period I was unable to log-in to my "Dashboard" then finally Customer Support in Germany sorted out the problem, and, just tried to log-in now when lo and behold "Error occurred" this despite everything is quite frustrating when working abroad and trying to access the on-line manual!

Sorry about the delayed response - it's been a busy weekend!

Wibbles - I've tried all the split screen options but there is no widget option anywhere.

dorsetred - I considered speaking to the connected drive centre but did not pursue it as I thought they would struggle the same as my dealership geniuses. However, based on your feedback I will give them a call in the morning and post any updates here.

As mentioned in an earlier post I have worked out some of the reasons behind the HUD and main screen showing different songs when playing music. To recap from my original post, one of the issues was as follows:

- The tracks shown on the HUD are not listed or selectable from the main screen
- The track shown playing on the main screen and the track shown playing on the HUD are different.

I resolved this by doing the following:
Remove icloud music from my phone (this reduced the number of tracks from 550ish to about 240). These 240 tracks are the songs stored on my phone.

This now meant I could see all tracks both on my HUD and main screen and they were all playable by pressing down on the roller switch.
If my iphone is in shuffle mode, the HUD display mirrors the 'up next' list whilst the main screen shows songs in alphabetical order.
With shuffle off, both the main screen and HUD show tracks in alphabetical order.

With icloud music back on, the main screen plays both phone stored and cloud stored music fine but the HUD reverts back to getting issues.

If I remove track information from the HUD this information gets displayed the instrument cluster instead (I cannot find an option to remove track info from the instrument cluster).

When using the instrument cluster, I am get the same issues as the HUD display when using icloud music.

In a nutshell the HUD and instrument cluster do not like icloud music but the main screen is fine.

Can someone verify the above so I can see if this a problem for me or the system in general?
