Interesting. I'd like to read the small print of a BMW PCP contract, if anyone had one? Are people allowed to modify without permission?

Putting firmer springs on and then complaining about rattles seems a bit of a self fulfilling prophecy!
Not really surprised by this, at the end of the day BMW own the car until it's paid for

This. I'm not surprised by the story either in honesty.
he seems to have shot himself in the foot as he took the issue up with BMW directly above the dealers head and i assume dealer took offence at this

its one of the reasons i did not want a PCP deal as if i want to mod it then its not worth the risk
There was a long thread about the same issue on the Seat Leon forum quite a few years back.

Essentially on PCP it's not your car to modify, there are usually other terms like needed to be fully comp insured and limits on how long it can be taken out of the country.
Seems fair enough, if you want a car on lease/PCP then play by the rules of the agreement or be prepared to get bummed if you don't.
If you want to modify without this potential hassle then buy the car outright.
Thanks David.

Well, I guess that ties that up, no loop holes there.
Bottom line - BMW own the car as per any pcp/hp agreement, so quite within their rights..
Shocked this guy took offence, he didn't cough up the money to buy the car outright, he went and put a deposit down while someone else has essentially made up the difference So he could purchase. He doesn't own the car he loans it until he decides to give it back, sell or pays the outstanding balance.

Well....

If that's what they do when they take issue with a set of springs, just think about finding a tuned car that you can't really turn back to stock without leaving codes and invalid warranty.

The only way people are getting away with modified cars is their dealers are keeping quiet. He's has an issue and has gone over his dealer's head. The dealer has then got revenge/used their get out clause of blaiming the owner's stiffer springs for a fault they didn't manage to fix.

Sounds as if the dealer was happy to stay quiet until they were going to find their workmanship questioned by BMW.

Ordinarily I would agree but MTW (OP on m3 cutters) claims to have knocking suspension arms changed under warranty, no questions asked so dealership are being inconsistent towards this guy.

It's just because he has gone above the dealer and complained to BMW directly.

The dealer won't want the blame of not being able to fix the rattles, so they've got a perfect get out excuse. They'll be protecting themselves from BMW questioning their work.
Are BMWP parts allowed on a PCP?

Ah I see, kinda got bored of reading the whole thread.

MTW is a chancer (I did write something much worse) by the sounds of it so +1 on Marco Ps comment I quoted above.......
Sounds like he has upset the dealer so the towel was thrown in.
Why should Bmw pay for repairs that could be related to modifications carried out to the car. Harsh I know but the costs could run into hundreds, maybe even thousand of pounds.
