Anyone with XHP stage 2 or 3?

On an m140i?

Ive got a longstanding issue with XHP stage 2/3 on my stage 2 m140i.

Basically in traction/sports plus with the firmer shifts, between 1st to 2nd and sometimes 2nd to 3rd under moderate throttle the car has rev flare, it basically looks like slipping but its like the transmission cant keep up.

Basically it will go into 2nd or 3rd and the revs will jump up to 500 rpm while it catches up, ive had it at a gearbox specialist who couldent replicate the fault but also said if there was a fault or clutch slip it would throw a code for which there are none at all.

Ive contacted XHP, they looked into it all got me to try a few things, also said there was no fault codes, taking the map off its fine and stage 1 is fine its just stage 2 and 3. Ive even took the map off for 3000 miles to give the gearbox time to relearn.

Im starting to wonder if its just a trait of having high power and rapid changes that occasionally the torque convertor tries to catch up or something does anyone else experience this????

It ALWAYS happens between 1800k and about 2200k, below or above these revs its absolutely fine and every other gear is fine, tbh i just change manually most of the time and dont change between that rev range.

Ive even just had the box serviced to no avail. Its only low mileage too.

Can you share a video of this?

I'm stage 3 XHP and the only thing I notice is that on Sport the gear-changes are annoyingly/un-necessarily aggressive, coming with an instant jerking of the car, I have a feeling that's to imitate a dual-clutch behaviour (why??) but other than that I don't think I have noticed what you mention.

Another thing is especially in 1st to 2nd, it sometimes takes a bit longer to change but I don't think that's what you describe here? A vid would help as I said.

Mine does this a little bit too actually.

Im stock tune but XHP STG3.

I find it only really does it in Traction mode, not so much in Sport+. Then again, I dont really ever drive without the paddles in Sport+ mode.

Ive never found it to be a massive issue tbh, and im on nearly 90k miles now. Serviced the box at 65k too.

Quick one, does it do it when using the paddles?

Not when using paddles i dont think no just in auto, i wish i never bothered to have the box serviced if its just a trait of the software 😂😂, im glad im not the only one it happens too.

Mine is the same as yours in sport it's a little jerky but totally fine in comfort.

So basically revs rise, drop by 500rpm and rise again while you have a steady throttle is what I think I'm seeing? If so I can't say I've noticed it on mine but will try to replicate it and report back.

No, basically:

I change gear, the revs drop then instantly rise like it has clutchs slip then stay there until it catches up OR i change into the next gear.

Between 1st and 2nd and 2nd and 3rd.

Moderate throttle in auto in traction or sports plus around 2000 rpm.

Yeah, dont sweat it - mine does it too!

I know it might seem annoying if youve serviced the box thinking it will resolve the issue. However, theres absolutely no harm in servicing them! I serviced mine at 65k and it made a MASSIVE different in driveability. I honestly couldnt believe it. :)

So your revs actually flare between 1st and 2nd and 2nd and 3rd (almost like clutch slip where the revs jump while the car catches up almost)???

Like i say traction mode under mild to moderate throttle seems to do it, doesent do it in other gears or at full throttle.

Also ive noticed the car seems a bit jittery at low revs in the first 2 gears in traction mode/sports plus, just not that smooth, fine in comfort or sports mode though.

Yep, exactly as you describe it. Its exactly how I would describe clutch slip.

And, again, the same with the jittery bit.

I honestly think its a mapping issue/feature.

Not great really is it, dont hear of anyone else with this issue, i was wondering if the torque convertor was going bad but would expect it to do similar things in all gears.
Love my xhp stage 3, but I run manual mode 24/7 been doing that for 3 years now. I rarely use my brakes as I downshift like its a manual car to slow me down plus the sounds are amazing on downshifts. I like to run around 2500 RPM and stay there or above just because it sounds so good.
Do you get any rev flare in auto in sports plus or traction.

OK I checked mine the other day but I could not replicate anything like that...

Urgh, thanks for checking.
