i don't believe there are any insurance issues; if anything you're actually making the car safer.

And an 8" rim is often fitted with a 225 tyre. If anything the 245 is the upper limit.

I've bought 4 x 225/40 Sottozero 3's, but the weather hasn't justified fitting yet.

We run the wife's VW Tiguan on Dunlop 4D winter tyres and look at accu weather forecast to time it rather than a specific month. We put them on 4th January this year and barely been above 5 degrees as a high since.

I've just had Goodyear Ultragrip G1 winters on. 225/40 front and 235/40 rear on the standard rims. Only had a brief run and not seen standing snow yet so can't comment but much cheaper than the Pirelli's. You will be shafted on any winters in that size as it's a bit oddball.

BTW, there is information from the ABI on what you need to declare " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I have those in a square 225 setup which is what BMW themselves supply. 245 sized winters are rare, expensive and actually less effective in bad weather than the narrower 225s, though they will have better grip in the dry. They seem a decent enough tyre for both dry and wet grip but they ride noticeably harder than my S001 summer tyres which are a revelation after the awful RE050A I had on my previous BMW.

Interesting that you are going RFT for winters, makes sense but non RFT would give you much more choice and be lots cheaper I should think.

I'm running 225/40-18 Brigestone Blizzak Spike-01 on mine. They are pretty good on snow, on dry I'm not convinced.
