Hey,

I remember years ago people with E30's used to do a DIY job on their kidney grills by sanding them down, priming them and spraying them gloss / satin black.

Has anyone on here tried this rather than having to buy them from Bmw?

Cheers

I tired both (plasti-dipping and painting) some years back. Both look good initially, but soon starting looking quite tatty with stone chips etc. Worth a go, but personally, I'd buy new.

When I had my Polo 6N2 (First car) I painted ALL the front grill plastics gloss black as they looked a bit dated and tatty. Sanded them down a bit, primed them (2x layers), painted them (2x layers) then lacquered them (2x layers) and they looked fantastic up until the day I sold the car 1.5 years later. Not one mark on them :).

I'm looking to get mine wrapped in gloss black. Super durable and don't have to worry about marks like you would get with paint.

+1 to this. I resprayed mine once but the stone chips are a PITA so I opted for new ones.

These are far easier to fit than fannying around any other way.

Funny you should say that, I've just purchased some of those. Are they good ? Was a bit sceptical at first but I just don't like the chrome surrounds on mine so thought I'd take a chance.

£18.99 free postage!? That's cheap! Nice one for this! I've had no time recently to get mine wrapped and considered just buying new black grilles. This option looks awesome though. How is the fit? :)

This is the only other pic I have right now, but providing you keep the sticky pads off the chrome surround until the right point, the fit is fine. Lots of very sticky pads so I'm not worried about them coming off either.
